WHO WE ARE

The Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR) is responsible for the intake reception and assessment functions including law enforcement processing of adult male and female offenders arrested in Montgomery County. Responsibility also includes the custody and care of male and female offenders who are either detained in a pretrial status or serving sentences less than 18 months. In addition to comprehensive facility case management the Inmate Services section provides a wide range of correctional services and programs to incarcerated individuals including education workforce development substance abuse treatment cognitive behavioral modification programs reentry and life skills programs faithbased supports and library services.

What Youll Be Doing

Managing a complex pretrial and sentenced population within a correctional facility presents multiple challenges. As a core staff member of Inmate Services the Correctional Specialist I/II (CS I/II Case Manager) position provides intake assessments housing classification programs and case management services for an offender population while working within the secure portion of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and the Montgomery County Detention Center.

In addition to these daily case management functions the employee will also provide coverage in other case management areas assist with facility program initiatives and services and may participate in disciplinary adjustment proceedings. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required for this position as well as effective skills using computer technology in daily responsibilities.


This recruitment will establish an eligible list to fill one current vacancy and future vacancies within the Inmate Services section of the Detention Services Division (DSD).


This CSI/II Case Manager position reports to one of the CSIV Case Management Supervisors and works closely with other Case Managers and Inmates Services staff as well as Custody and Security and Mental Health staff. The CSI/II Case Manager position works a schedule selected through an annual bid based on seniority schedules range MondayFriday or TuesdaySaturday from 730am4pm 8am430pm and 830am530pm with one potential late night of 11:00am730pm. This position is assigned between the two facilities of Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF) in Boyds Maryland or Montgomery County Detention Center (MCDC) in Rockville Maryland. This position is considered as essential personnel within the Department and required to work onsite during weather related events or general emergencies.


Prior to appointment all applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation psychological evaluation medical examination and drug/alcohol screen.


Candidate must successfully complete the Maryland Correctional Training Academy EntryLevel Program First Line Supervisor and possess a Certificate of successful completion within 12months of hire. Must maintain and successfully complete additional Statemandated and Departmental Correctional training as required.


Generally this position is covered by Employees Retirement System Group JK. If the successful candidate is an internal employee retirement plan coverage will be determined at the time the job offer is made.

Experience:


If filled at Correctional Specialist I: One 1 year of fulltime satisfactory experience in communitybased corrections or in other human services work emphasizing treatment/counseling.


If filled at Correctional Specialist II: Two 2 years of fulltime satisfactory experience in communitybased corrections or in other human services work emphasizing treatment/counseling one 1 year of which must be equivalent to that of a Correctional Specialist I.


All Levels Education:


Possession of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.


All Levels Equivalency:


Excess education may be substituted for required experience but excess experience may not be substituted for the Bachelors Degree as the educational requirement is stipulated by the Maryland State Training Commission.
