SALARY INFORMATION
Base salary for:
Equipment Operator Journey 1: $30.81 / Hour
Equipment Operator Journey 2: $32.60 / Hour
What you will be doing:
As a journeymanlevel operator you will operate heavy equipment to maintain roads clear snow and perform emergency responses. This includes inspecting equipment performing routine maintenance and handling snow and ice removal with plows graders and sanders. Youll also manage snow haul operations drainage tasks with steam generators and contribute to infrastructure maintenance such as asphalt concrete and bridge repairs. Additionally you will set up traffic control respond to emergencies and perform other maintenance duties as needed.

This position is based in Manley Hot Springs Alaska within the Dalton District. Located in a remote and scenic area this role offers the opportunity to work in an essential region of Alaskas transportation network supporting both local communities and broader infrastructure efforts. This job class is part of a series of competency based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor Trades and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area the core and specific competencies of the career area required work behaviors certifications and physical requirements. FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the Equipment Operator 1 or 2 level depending on the applicants training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level the position is hired at. If filled at Level 1 promotion to the Level 2 will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONS
This recruitment utilizes a supplemental questionnaire as part of the application process. The answers will be used to determine which applicants will advance to the interview phase of the recruitment and selection process.
COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIRED
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) per federal regulations 49 CFR 383 to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safetysensitive duties and to provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.
Equipment Operator Journey 1
A Class A Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required for this position. A conditional hire approval can be given to applicants that do not yet possess a Class A CDL. This means that the proposed appointee must successfully obtain a Class A CDL within 120 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
Equipment Operator Journey 2
A Class A Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with NTanker endorsement is required at time of hire.
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION & PUBLIC FACILITIES DRUG AND ALCOHOL POLICY
Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required PreEmployment drug test. According to federal regulations all violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.
EDUCATION
To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies you must fill in the Education section of the application. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies for a position and are required with each application.
