of Job Duties:The Physics Department in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to start in January 2025. This is a standard ninemonth faculty appointment.

We seek candidates working in astrophysics whose research interests complement and expand those of our current astrophysics faculty including multiwavelength studies of galaxy structure and evolution highenergy phenomena in galaxies (Xray binaries and AGN) black holes and gravitational wave sources see
for more details. Qualified candidates working in all areas of astrophysics both observational and theoretical are welcome to apply.

The requirements are a Ph.D. degree in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field as well as demonstrated ability and commitment to excellence in independent research through an active research agenda and scholarly productivity beyond the Ph.D. The successful candidate is expected to establish a research program capable of attracting funding from outside sources and to mentor graduate students in our Ph.D. program. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the teaching and service activities of the Physics Department and the University. Teaching duties include undergraduate and/or graduate student course instruction at a level commensurate with an R1 research institution and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students in research.

The position includes funds that support the hiring of a postdoctoral researcher a PhD student travel and other research support funds.

Regular reliable and nondisruptive attendance is an essential job duty as is the ability to create and maintain collegial harmonious working relationships with others.

With submitted materials the candidate must demonstrate:

  • PhD in Astrophysics Astronomy or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment

  • An active research agenda

  • Evidence of scholarly productivity

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated commitment to exceptional teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels

  • A demonstrated commitment to or experience in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in independent research

  • Strong evidence of the ability to be an active involved and collegial member of a collaborative faculty team both on campus and in relevant national service organizations
