Job Description

Starr Regional Medical Center is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Nurse Tech 2 for our MedSurg Department. This job is permanent full time.

Core competencies include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs basic patient care activities as delegated and supervised by an RN including monitoring vital signs possibly taking blood glucose measurements and recording intake and output.
  • Assists patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living including but not limited to bathing grooming eating and ambulation.
  • Reports abnormal findings or changes in physical mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Assists with keeping patient rooms and common areas stocked clean and orderly.
  • Performs continual surveillance of multiple monitors.
  • Reads telemetry test strips and places them in the patient charts at required intervals.
  • Identifies significant arrhythmias and/or signs of patient distress and intervenes appropriately.
  • Identifies and corrects for artifacts.
  • Reports abnormal assessment and telemetry findings or changes in patient physical mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff.
  • Tests equipment for proper working order. Reports equipment problems to supervisor.
  • Greets patients and visitors. Answers screens and routes telephone calls. Calls codes pages and overhead announcements as requested.
  • Enters nursing requests and orders subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary.
  • Assists with processing patient admissions transfers and discharges. Assembles and maintains patient records and charts.
  • Performs needed clerical tasks including copying filing and ordering/stocking supplies.
  • Assists RNs and physicians with other patient activities as needed.
Minimum Education
HS Diploma GED or equivalent work experience:

Nursing student or completion of a licensed nursing assistant program:

Minimum Work Experience
1 year recent acute care experience:

Certifications:
Rhythm Interpretation Class:
Preferred X Required

The below certifications will be required within 60 days of hire:
X Basic Life Support (BLS)
