JOB DESCRIPTION:
As an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) you will provide expert database administration support to our customer within the DMV area. You will be responsible for managing and optimizing Oracle databases in highsecurity environments including Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs). The Oracle DBA will play a critical role in maintaining the availability integrity and security of highly sensitive production databases ensuring they operate efficiently and securely in support of the customers mission. Responsibilities include installing configuring and optimizing Oracle database systems managing complex backup and recovery operations and implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions. You will will collaborate closely with development business and operations teams to address performance issues apply Oracle database STIGs and ensure the overall security and compliance of database environments. Additionally the role will involve troubleshooting complex technical issues including resolving database performance bottlenecks and database errors as well as overseeing routine database maintenance and patching processes. You will be relied upon to apply industryleading best practices and security standards to safeguard the integrity of critical data maintain the highest levels of database performance and provide recommendations for improving system architecture and scalability.
Install configure provision operate and administer Oracle database management systems (DBMS) and associated backend server hardware.
Perform daily database administration tasks including patching troubleshooting backups and ensuring high data availability.
Monitor maintain and performancetune production databases to meet business requirements for availability scalability and reliability.
Ensure database integrity availability and security particularly in a highsecurity environment (SCIF).
Apply database STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) and adhere to security best practices to ensure database compliance.
Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery strategies for Oracle database environments.
Upgrade major database instances independently and ensure all patches and updates are applied to minimize vulnerabilities and downtime.
Technical Support & Performance Tuning
Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues ensuring minimal downtime and optimal database performance.
Conduct performance tuning for databases including queries indexes stored procedures and hardware resources.
Provide support for databaserelated infrastructure including backend storage hardware platforms and network configurations.
Design and implement database schema tables and indexes for new applications or enhancements.
Perform capacity planning and utilization monitoring for databases ensuring scalability for future needs.
Support development teams in writing and optimizing SQL and PL/SQL queries as well as generating system data reports.
Collaboration & Documentation
Collaborate with development business and operations teams to ensure that database systems align with organizational and mission needs.
Document database configurations procedures and troubleshooting steps creating standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Participate in team meetings reviewing database performance and availability issues and providing solutions for improvement.
Assist in the development and improvement of databaserelated policies and procedures ensuring consistency and operational efficiency.
Security & Compliance
Ensure compliance with database security requirements including auditing access control and encryption standards.
Ensure timely patching and resolution of security vulnerabilities within the database systems.
Work with the information security team to review and apply database security policies and standards.
Additional Duties
Participate in oncall support rotation for afterhours database troubleshooting and performance issues.
Stay uptodate with Oracle DBMS enhancements industry best practices and relevant technologies like cloud services and virtualization (e.g. AWS VMware).
Assist in the migration of database environments to the cloud (AWS Oracle Cloud) when applicable.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBA staff or team members.
EXPERIENCE:
Database Administration & Oracle Expertise
Extensive experience with Oracle Database platforms (versions 19c and higher) including installation configuration patching and performance tuning.
Proven ability to implement and maintain STIG compliance for Oracle databases ensuring all security standards are met.
Strong experience applying database patching strategies to keep systems up to date and secure.
Handson experience with Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) database clustering to provide high availability scalability and fault tolerance for Oracle databases.
Significant Experience with Data Guard to ensure ensures data availability data protection and disaster recovery.
Solid working knowledge of ASM (Automatic Storage Management) for database storage management.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
Advanced skills in SQL query optimizationPL/SQL scripting and database performance tuning to ensure optimal performance across systems.
Expertise in resolving complex database performance bottlenecks ensuring high availability and responsiveness.
Backup Recovery & Disaster Recovery
Deep knowledge of Oracle RMAN (Recovery Manager) and Data Guard for backup recovery and disaster recovery solutions ensuring data integrity and availability during disasters.
Experience designing and implementing robust backup strategies that include scheduled backups incremental backups and disaster recovery setups.
Security & Compliance
Strong experience in applying Oracle database STIGs (Security Technical Implementation Guides) ensuring adherence to security policies and regulations.
Expertise in auditing and encryption techniques to safeguard sensitive data and ensure database security and compliance.
Operating Systems & Virtualization
Handson experience administering Linux and Windows Server environments including commandline interface (CLI) management and scripting.
Experience with VMware or similar virtualization platforms to support database deployments in virtualized environments.
High Availability (HA) & Capacity Planning
Familiarity with High Availability (HA) solutions for Oracle databases including Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters) and Data Guard to ensure continuous database uptime.
Experience in capacity planning monitoring database utilization and forecasting resource needs for optimal database performance.
Cloud Services & Migration
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and Oracle Cloud with experience managing cloudbased database services.
Experience with database migration to cloud platforms or virtualized environments ensuring seamless transitions without data loss.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
Strong ability to diagnose and resolve complex database performance security and operational issues quickly and effectively minimizing downtime and disruptions.
