POSITION DESCRIPTION
Whats the job
The Automation Projects Engineer will assist with the development and implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects production processing methods and controls in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Insulations Vision Mission Values and Objectives.
Through the application of engineering fundamentals and advances process control tools this position will ensure that processes are centered capable and in control; reduce process variations; and resolve special causes variation. This position will also provide leadership in the implementation and support of plant automation electrical and database systems.
Provide electrical and electronic technical support to all production and maintenance operations throughout the plant. This position includes the design budgeting scheduling and management of capital projects as well as providing daily technical and troubleshooting support to the manufacturing operation of the facility.
50 Project Management
- Perform all aspects of project management and design engineering for capital and expense projects.
- Responsible for planning evaluating organizing and implementing automationrelated projects and initiatives.
- Designing or developing new process control systems and revising/maintaining existing processes developing and implementing WCM projects and managing and guiding contractors consultants and suppliers.
- Manage automationrelated projects and provide status reports to plant management. Develop and maintain PLC/HMI systems from the plant floor to management and financial levels.
- Research design and evaluate electrical and automation equipment processes and systems. Develop CAD drawings BOMs and schematics.
- Obtain cost estimates and contractor bids for electrical and automation projects and improvements.
50 Support Plant Production
- Provides technical support troubleshooting and enhancement of automationrelated systems (PLC/HMI/VFD/Instrumentation/Data and Voice Networks/plant electrical distribution systems) and implements required updates to avoid technical obsolescence.
- Specify system components or direct modification of equipment to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operations and implement improvements.
- Assist with troubleshooting efforts with the plant Mechanical Engineers Process Engineers and electrical maintenance department.
- Performs rootcause failure analysis as well as implements sustainable maintenance improvements.
- Assist in the development or standard operating procedures and work instructions regarding new/improved equipment or processes.
- May be required to perform other duties as requested directed or assigned.
Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
What do you bring
- Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience.
- Ten to twenty 1020 years of applied professional experience in Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) / PLC automation industrial protocols/networking (switching & routing) and databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and problemsolving capabilities to work effectively in corporate manufacturing and team environments.
- Thorough knowledge of AC/DC drive systems Power distribution systems including switch gear components Servo Motor Equipment and programming Ethernet Networking systems HMI and PLC Programming / Troubleshooting Electrical and Electronic systems integration ElectroMechanical design and troubleshooting.
- Thorough knowledge of Capital and Maintenance project management.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical including P&ID IO schematics oneline diagrams 3line schematics and other related knowledge.
