Job Description

EPS Title I Summer Acceleration Academy Substitute Teachers


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Title I Summer Acceleration Academy provides structured academic programming in ELA
and Math for students in grades K5 during the summer. Students will receive instruction on
gradelevel topics in ELA and Math. The program will be free and held at the Parlin Madeline
English Keverian and Lafayette from 7:45 am12:30 pm. The Acceleration Academy is funded
through Title I and will serve students identified as most atrisk through the midyear and endyear ELA and math data.
Program teachers will participate in professional development before the beginning of the
program on implementing small group reading instruction. Teachers will participate in ongoing
coaching throughout the program on the implementation of the strategies including one hour a
week meeting to discuss the implementation of small group reading practices.
EPS is seeking one building substitute per site who will work every day of the summer program
and be available to support any classrooms where a teacher has called out. The right candidate
is positive flexible communicative and ready to step in wherever necessary whether it means
helping out with 8thgrade math or reading to a kindergarten classroom. You will also be
assisting with front door monitoring and student dismissal.


WORKING TIMES:


28 Days of summer school (July 13 and July 7August 8 2025
MondayFriday 7:45 AM 12:45 PM
Every Wednesday 12:30 AM1:30 PM program meeting
Required training dates June 17 and June 18th 8 AM3:00 PM (Dates tentative based on
last day of school)


REMUNERATION:

$40/hour total stipend up to a total maximum stipend of $6260


Number of Openings:

1 per program site


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Plan and facilitate lessons for inperson learning that are aligned with the Massachusetts
DESE Standards in ELA and math.
Use best practices in ELA and math curriculums that encourage higherorder thinking
critical thinking and collaboration.
Implement specific literacybased strategies identified for summer school and participate
in coaching opportunities to strengthen the implementation of the strategies.
Use all available technology and curricula provided by the district to create engaging
lessons and supports that are linked with 21stcentury skills.
Manage classroom behavior with strategies that motivate students support an inclusive
learning community and empower students to participate actively and appropriately in
all program activities.
Incorporate Social Emotional Learning standards and curriculum that promote selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
Utilize inclusive practices that support students with disabilities and English language
learners.
Implement SEI strategies that support the language acquisition of English Learners.
Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Language Proficiency Standards
into content instruction including listening speaking reading and writing.
Communicate with student families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that
promote twoway conversations.
Report daily attendance to the Manager of Extended Learning and contact students and
families attending inconsistently.
Support recruiting students to join your class support families with online registration
and ensure equitable outreach to families.
Contribute to schoolwide Summer School initiatives and events which may be assigned
by the Principal Assistant Principal and/or Summer School Site Coordinator.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Assistant Principal and/or Summer
School Site Coordinator.

REQUIREMENTS:


Associate degree or higher in Education and/or a related field
At least 1 year of elementary or middle school teaching experience


PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelors Degree in Education or related field
3 or more years of elementary or middle school teaching experience
Current EPS employee in good standing
Dual Licensure in Special Education and/or English as a Second Language
Foreign Language Proficiency
Previous experience working in Extended Learning programs after school before
school summer learning Acceleration Academies coaching tutoring etc.
