Job Description

  • Employment Type: Full time position 12month Fixed Term position.
  • Remuneration: Level 8 from $superannuation.
  • Location: Kensington NSW

About the Role

The Senior Data Engineer will play a crucial role in Cardiac AI a research program focused on developing data resources analytics and tools to combat cardiovascular disease. The role involves designing developing optimizing automating documenting and managing data operations specifically processing Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in a secure cloud environment. The engineer will collaborate with data scientists cardiologists neurologists health IT teams and AWS engineers to support Cardiac AIs mission to use AIdriven insights for improving cardiovascular health outcomes. The role reports to the technical lead of Cardiac AI.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience in and be responsible for:

  • Develop and oversee the development and maintenance of Python scripts to merge data extracts from multiple sources ensuring data consistency accuracy and integrity. Manage and test the AI models for the deidentification of notes and maintain an identifier registry and optout process.
  • Identify areas of improvement and provide the leadership needed to maintain the efficiency and effectiveness of the data processing. Lead initiatives to redesign and enhance processes to improve scalability reliability and performance. Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to implement best practices promote a culture of continuous improvement and ensure the timely delivery of highquality data outputs.
  • Lead and execute ETL processes and other data engineering tasks as required. This may include conversion of existing ETL scripts from Cerner CCL language to Snowflake SQL or providing synthetic data for use in test environments.
  • Engage with AWS engineers and other stakeholders to ensure the quality and accuracy of the automated Cardiac AI data pipeline.
  • Prepare and maintain complex relevant documentation of AWS Cardiac AI cloud workspaces to enable ongoing management of the data pipeline processes.
  • Participate in workshops implementation activities and stakeholder meetings.

About You

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering Data Science or a related field. Postgraduate qualifications (MSc PhD) would be an advantage.
  • Professional software development experience with a proven track record delivering high quality software on time using testdriven development and agile project management methods.
  • Demonstrated programming experience with Python.
  • Demonstrated expertise in (development and operations) DevOps processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in cloud computing platforms especially AWS and Snowflake.
  • Experience with ETL processes and the development and management of SQL databases.
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records and/or other Health data.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with health data including compliance with privacy regulations is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and lead data engineering projects.
