Job Description: Lecturer in Kinesiology
The Lecturer in Kinesiology will have the following academic qualifications:
- a doctorate degree in a related field (e.g. exercise physiology kinesiology sport science etc. or
- a masters degree if bolstered by advanced credentials (e.g. EPC CSCS CISSN etc.
- The lecturer should have prior experience in teaching at the university level; previous skills as a researcher are not required as this position is teaching position.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required along with excellent communication and collaborative skills.
As a lecturer at a Christian university strong commitment to Christian higher education the universitys mission and Christian identity and the integration of faith and learning is expected. This individual should be able to articulate how Christian faith informs and enriches the field of Kinesiology.
Responsibilities:
- Teaching up to 30 credits per academic year
- The initial teaching schedule will likely include the following courses:
- Introductory courses:
- Introduction to Physical Wellbeing
- Physical Wellbeing (i.e. physical activity) courses
- Founda:ons of Kinesiology
- Advanced undergraduate courses:
- Biomechanics
- Administration of ExerciseRelated Programs
- Graduate level courses:
- Portfolio I & II (experiential learning)
Description of Lecturer Role at Lipscomb University (from Faculty Handbook):
- Lecturers are academic experts who teach full or parttime in a nontenure track positionTime spent as a lecturer does not typically count toward eligibility for tenure or fringe benefits. Typically faculty with the Lecturer designation hold at least the masters degree but less than the earned doctors degree while faculty with the Senior Lecturer designation hold a doctorate or equivalent degree or has served the university with excellence for more than five years. Lecturers fulltime teaching load is considered 30 hours of teaching for a 10month contract (five courses per semester). Upon recommendation from the dean a Lecturer may be promoted to Senior Lecturer after five years of service.
