Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully reenter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The DOC seeks to recruit a Payroll Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to:
Prepare annual Task and Standards and evaluations in addition to supervising a team of four
4 payroll analysts.
Provide onthejob training and guidance to payroll analysts.
Calculate and process managerial lumpsums payments once approval is received from the
Comptroller Office.
Add and remove the rotating shift differential payment for uniformed staff.
Strong analytical skills and knowledge base of the Pending Pay Details Awaiting Approval 161
report.
Approve pay details to release funds to employees and/or process recoupment in cases.
Process the annual Motor Vehicle and Parking Taxable Fringe Benefit assessment.
Prepare the biweekly payroll certification for approval by the Department of Citywide
Administrative Services (DCAS).
Assist with the coordination and distribution of the biweekly payroll.
Provide outstanding customer service by responding to written and verbal inquiries including
answering the payroll hotline and the general payroll email inbox.
Prepare reports and respond to requests sent from the Law Department for the City of
New York.
Approve check refund forms and stop payment notices and submit to the Office of Payroll
Administration (OPA) for processing.
Generate reports through the City Human Resources Management System (CHRMS).
Assist with manual leave adjustments to correct time and leave discrepancies using CityTime;
Process retro leave and pay triggers in the Payroll Information (Pi) system.
Work in coordination with Timekeeping to ensure that employees timesheet failures are
corrected to allow for proper payment on the following biweekly paycheck.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of fulltime paid experience in correction social work psychology law public administration or related field providing direct services to an inmate or detention population within a correctional or related facility; or

2. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of fulltime paid experience as described in 1 above; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. Service as an inmate in a correctional or related facility may be substituted for a portion of the required experience up to a maximum of two years on a year for year basis. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work psychology law criminal justice or public administration which includes a field placement performing duties as described above may be substituted for up to one year of fulltime paid experience as described above. However all candidates must have at least one year of fulltime paid experience as described in 1 above.
