JOB TITLE:
Post Doctoral Research Associate in SocialEnvironmental Systems Modeling
JOB PURPOSE:
Dr. Jake Hawes at the University of Wyoming is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in computing for socialenvironmental systems based in his lab group at the University of Wyomings School of Computing and Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The Hawes lab specializes in mixed methods modeling of socialenvironmental systems with particular emphasis in infrastructure systems foodenergywater systems and outdoor recreationbased economies. The postdoc will have the opportunity to work on a number of projects ongoing or starting in the lab including: 1. The impacts of wildfire on institutions infrastructure and tourismdependent communities; 2. The interaction of institutions and infrastructure with natural hazards in Alaska; and 3. The role of smart systems and controlled environment agriculture in rural communities.
Candidates should have expertise in mixed methods assessment of socialenvironmental systems including social science natural hazards assessment and/or coupled modeling. Candidates should show creativity and flexible thinking be selfmotivated and able to work both independently with guidance and support as well as in collaboration with others.
The position is for one to three years with appointment for the second year and beyond contingent on performance and project funding. Financial support for travel to attend at least one conference will also be available.
The University of Wyoming is an R1 research institution and the only fouryear university in the state. In addition to the unique relationship this ensures between UW and Wyoming residents and decisionmakers the University has extraordinary resources to support research computing and data science including a longterm collaboration with the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the NCARWyoming Supercomputer Center through which a significant fraction of resources is reserved exclusively for UW use.

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Doctoral Degree is required for this position however consideration will be given to applicants that are currently pursuing their Doctoral Degree and will complete the degree prior to starting work.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will also be given to candidates with degrees in computational social science or interdisciplinary fields.
