Job Description

The Workman School of Dental Medicine is seeking a dedicated and passionate faculty member to serve as the Assistant Director of Simulation Learning. This position is integral to ensuring the smooth operation of preclinical courses for dental students. The faculty member will work closely with the Director of Simulation Learning to provide highquality education and handson training in the Simulation Laboratory Didactic Space and Haptic Laboratory. This is a fulltime MondayFriday academic position with no clinical responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • DDS DMD or equivalent dental degree required.

Experience and Training

  • Previous experience in dental education simulationbased learning and/or curriculum development preferred.

Knowledge Skills Ability:

  • Strong knowledge of operative and prosthodontic dentistry.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM technology and digital dentistry preferred.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an academic environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

I. Current Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Actively teach all components of preclinical operative and prosthodontic courses.
  • Assist with CAD/CAM projects in both D1 and D2 curriculums.
  • Participate in faculty calibration exercises to ensure consistency in teaching and assessment.
  • Assist with grading and evaluating learner assessments.
  • Assist in the presentation of lecture materials as needed.
  • Contribute to curriculum assessment and development for continuous improvement.
  • Attend meetings related to the position courses and teaching duties.
  • Create demonstration preparations and restorations to support student learning.
  • Develop patient cases aligned with the course curriculum to help students bridge the gap between simulation and reallife practice.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of a boot camp for students transitioning to clinical practice (typically rising D3s).
  • Collaborate with the Director of Simulation Learning on research projects and copresent findings at academic meetings when applicable.

II. Future Responsibilities (As D3 and D4 Cohorts Are Introduced):

  • Utilize simulation to reinforce clinical skills including OSCEs competencies and patient scans in the Haptic Laboratory for procedure practice.
  • Assist in the development and instruction of an advanced operative course for D3 and D4 students.
  • Expand the integration of simulationbased learning into clinical training.

III. Potential Future Clinical Involvement (Optional):

  • Opportunity to transition into a clinical setting for one day per week.
  • Serve as a clinical faculty member for D3 and D4 students supervising a maximum of four students per session.
  • Provide observational guidance and step in as needed to support student learning and patient care.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Evaluation: Ongoing performance review is conducted along with an annual assessment by the Dean and includes input from the faculty and learners.
  • Reports to the Director for Simulation Learning
