THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated
journeymanlevel Marine Mechanical Engineer with experience in ship propulsion to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)s Ship Design Team in
Baltimore MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with developing ship propulsion and control systems machinery arrangements weight assessments and/or conducting trade studies on the configuration of propulsion and associated components as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs standards and regulations.
Typical Responsibilities:- Provide technical support and documentation design develop and evaluate the operation of marine vessels ship machinery and related equipment to include but not limited to: power supply and propulsion systems.
- Research and develop ship propulsion systems to include but not limited to: diesels gas turbines dieselelectric systems propellers rudders thrusters gears shafts bearings seals noise vibration and interfaces with dynamic positioning systems and apply to applicable design and requirements.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
- Conduct analyses propulsion systems and types lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
- Conduct trade studies regarding ship configuration.
Location: Primarily onsite (at least 3 days/week) at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore MD. Alternate telework schedules or work locations may be considered for especially qualified candidates.
Travel:Up to 10 travel is anticipated for ship checks.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g. confined spaces ladders hatches) or vision.

US Citizenship Required:Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I9/EVerify at the start of employment.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required:This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred);OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire.
Typical Knowledge Skills and Abilities:- Bachelors degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical engineering or a marine discipline from an ABETaccredited institution.
- Masters degree preferred.
- At least three 3 years of recent relevant experience with developing ship propulsion and control systems machinery arrangements weight assessments and conducting trade studies on the configuration of propulsion and associated components.
- Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs preferred.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
- Familiarity with ABS NVR and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
