Position Overview:
The Nevada Secretary of States Office is seeking a highly experienced Senior Database Architect to support Project Orion our statewide initiative to modernize and reimagine Nevadas business licensing systems including the replacement of the SilverFlume platform. This pivotal role will lead data architecture strategy and oversee the migration of critical business data from legacy systems to modern scalable platforms.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in largescale data migrations relational database design and performance tuning with a track record of working on complex government or enterprise IT projects.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the maintenance and optimization of legacy SQL Server environments to allow a smooth data transition and transformation between our legacy application into our vendors solution.
Develop and maintain the overall data architecture to support modern application workflows ensuring data integrity security and accessibility.
Create and manage ETL processes and tools for data transformation and transfer.
Collaborate with development teams business analysts and external vendors to align data strategies with business and technical requirements.
Establish and enforce data governance quality and security protocols.
Conduct data mapping cleansing validation and reconciliation to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
Lead efforts to optimize database performance and ensure high availability and disaster recovery.
Document data flows models and architecture diagrams for both legacy and modernized systems.
Design and implement scalable secure and highperformance database architectures to support enterprise applications.
Act as the subject matter expert on data integration warehousing and migration from legacy systems to modern platforms.
Collaborate with crossfunctional teams including developers system admins and business units to ensure data availability and reliability.
Develop and enforce database best practices backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery protocols.
Analyze and troubleshoot complex performance issues at the query index and infrastructure level.
Support modernization efforts and futureproofing initiatives including cloud readiness assessments and data governance planning.
Qualifications:
10 years of experience in database architecture and administration with a focus on data migration projects.
Proven success leading endtoend data migrations involving multiple systems and large volumes of structured data.
Expertlevel knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and modern database platforms (e.g. PostgreSQL cloudbased DBaaS solutions).
Handson experience with ETL tools (e.g. SSIS Informatica Talend) and scripting languages (e.g. TSQL PL/SQL Python).
Strong understanding of data modeling (OLTP/OLAP) normalization indexing and performance tuning.
Familiarity with state or federal government data environments is highly desirable.
Experience working in agile and hybrid project environments.
Excellent communication leadership and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience migrating financial or licensing systems (e.g. Great Plains CRM platforms).
Knowledge of Nevadas regulatory licensing or business registration processes.
Experience working with DevOps teams and cloud infrastructure (e.g. Azure AWS RDS)
