Job Description

Here we learn because we Role. The Miami Valley School is seeking an English teacher committed to developing a curriculum that is literaturerich writingintensive and culturallyinclusive. The faculty member will teach multiple sections of 9th grade English (The Art of the Essay) as well as 10th grade English (World Literature). Depending on enrollment this teacher may teach a yearlong middle school English course that would replace one section of upper school includes offering Embedded Honors for both 9th and 10th grade English. Embedded Honors allows students to engage in alternate and sometimes additional reading writing and discussions that push students to broader deeper and more complex examinations of the coursework within their existing English sections. Here you will integrate academics handson activities and scholarly habits via crosscurricular designs and models of Academic Rigor with Increased Accessibility. Through your intentional planning and development of coursework our students will explore their unique learning needs utilize critical thinking and begin to think about and create solutions for todays pressing as Part of a WorldClass Team. In your role teaching at MVS you will work alongside dedicated faculty who have taught and learned all over the world and in a variety of school contexts. Your colleagues are artists researchers entrepreneurs published authors professional musicians armed services veterans and thespians. Expectations: Establish a supportive and engaging environment for students;Utilize the MVS Immersion Method and Mind Brain Education best practices in your teaching;Demonstrate a deep belief that teachers have a unique role in empowering students to become passionately inquisitive; Demonstrate a teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of teaching methods and learning needs; most importantly supporting immersive experiential learning;Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students at all readiness levels;Foster the belief in each of our students that students can and will change the world;Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning through engagement in ongoing professional development;Build collaborative partnership with students faculty and parents;Develop and facilitate culturally inclusive curricula and inclusive classroom practices;All faculty can expect to travel with students (grades 412 for 13 weeks per year;This is primarily an upper school position but based upon yearly enrollment you could be asked to teach in the middle school;Primary Responsibilities:Teach four sections of upper school English OR three sections of upper school English and one section of middle school English;Lead/Colead an Immersion program in January in any division;Develop and propose new courses each year including new Immersion programs;Serve as an advisor for a group of 1012 students;Lead and/or advise extracurricular activities which include student clubs and athletics;Report to the Upper School Division Director;Qualifications:Possess a desire to work with preteen and teenage students in an experiential setting;Work collaboratively with colleagues and parents;Possess excellent communication skills;Ideal candidates will possess prior experience teaching English in middle and/or upper school settings advising clubs coaching athletics and/or leading student travel learning programs;Undergraduate or advanced degree(s) in English English education or other humanities degree; Candidates without prior teaching experience will also be considered;Benefits.
