Job Description

Job Description:

Individual will be responsible for teaching the Macomb Intermediate School District designed Readers and Writers camp for students entering grades 5 6 7 or 8. The goals of the camp are:

  • Support students reading for pleasure and writing to express ideas
  • Encourage students think of themselves as readers and writers
  • Teachers get a chance to focus on the joy of getting students interested in books and talking to peers about what they are reading and writing
  • Teachers get time to talk to students about books
  • Teachers get a chance to learn about some really fun Middle Grades novels
  • Students get to share their work with an audience beyond the classroom

Position Department: Summer School

Report to: Billie Sczepaniak Director of Curriculum and Educational Services

Teacher Hours:

  • 8:00am11:20am (including breakfast and lunch supervision)
  • 40 minutes of daily paid prep time
  • Total hours per day: 4

Teacher Days:

  • Student Program Dates: June
  • PreProgram setup: June 12; 9:00am12:00pm 3 hours)
  • MISD InPerson Training (compensation provided by MISD);select one date: June 9 1:00pm3:00pm OR June 9 4:30pm6:30pm OR June 10 9:00am11:00am

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Exemplary experience in teaching middle school ELA
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and engage students
  • Must be available during the time requirements of the position
  • Certification in CPR and first aidrequired

Responsibilities:

  • Providing a sample camp flyer/registration form for districts to send home with students
  • Providing teachers with instructional materials including daily lesson plans
  • Providing districts with student materials
  • Providing pre and post assessments
  • Supervise students during breakfast and lunch

Expectations:

It is imperative that chosen teachers are enthusiastic positive professionals who possess the energy to make a difference in student learning in a short time. The social emotional development of all young children is the key to maximizing the benefits of educational experiences at any time.

Rate of Pay Note: $25/hour (per REA Contract) $15/hourBonus to Address Learning Loss $40/hour
