Job Description

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor the preschool teacher plans implements schedules and organizes the Mission Oaks Preschool Program for children ages 35. The Preschool Teacher will also maintain the policies and procedures and perform related work as required. Mission Oaks Preschool emphasizes physical social and emotional growth for children in a recreational playbased and processoriented environment. Activities are designed to foster a healthy child with a positive selfimage and enjoy learning. The teacher is responsible for developing and implementing an ongoing program of activities that promote the social emotional cognitive and physical development of each child enrolled in their classroom.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

The Preschool Teacher is expected to work effectively under minimal supervision and work within a framework of standard District policies and procedures.

The Preschool Teacher provides daytoday supervision and mentoring of the classroom assistant MORPD support staff and volunteers while in the preschool.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

  • Develop and implement a playbased developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Engage and motivate children through activities like storytelling art STEM sensory and music.
  • Assist with daily activities (e.g. restroom use hand washing).
  • Communicate effectively with children parents the public staff and supervisors. Establish a professional rapport with families and share updates via Class Dojo.
  • Respond calmly to emergencies and maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and work cooperatively with others.
  • Promote and follow safety procedures. Report problems or hazards that may occur either with children parents or equipment to the Recreation Supervisor. Provide first aid as required; respond to emergencies and ensure that accidents and incidents are promptly documented and reported.
  • Maintain and organize classroom supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with program budget and tracking.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Perform clerical and administrative tasks.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings and trainings.
  • Work cooperatively with the class assistant and team.
  • Independently initiate and complete work tasks.
  • Promote Mission Oaks programming at local events.
  • Maintain professional and technical recreational knowledge by attending educational and developmental workshops
  • Position may also perform other nonessential duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Knowledge of recreational activities appropriate for preschoolage children. Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers children parents and volunteers. Leadership and organizational skills. Ability to use independent judgment and take appropriate action to ensure childrens and staffs safety. Ability to deal with emergencies and stressful situations.

  • Minimum Education Required: must have a high school diploma or equivalent complete at least 12 units of early childhood education coursework (preferred)
    Minimum Experience Required: 6 months of experience in recreation childcare or related field and/or two years of parttime experience in a childcare setting.
  • Other requirements: State law requires all selected applicants 18 and over to be fingerprinted and pass a preemployment background check. A TB test clearance is required for all selected applicants. Reliable transportation to and from work. First Aid/CPR/AED Training or willingness to complete/recertify.
  • Licenses/Certification:
    • Preferred possession of a valid class C California Drivers license.
    • Current CPR AED and First Aid certifications required.

Environmental Conditions:

Outdoor recreational facilities; frequent public contact; exposure to sun heat wind rain and inclement weather. The schedule may vary.


Physical Conditions:

  • Strength mobility and stamina to bend reach stretch stand kneel walk run stoop lift carry push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds while monitoring children and participating in camp activities. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Job involves 30 standing and 70 walking or active movement.
  • Must occasionally have the ability to feel the attributes of objects by touch; maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling; and be able to walk climb stoop kneel crouch and stand.
  • Strength mobility and stamina to perform various physical activities.
  • Hearing and speech are adequate to communicate in person and over the phone.
  • Vision adequate to monitor children and read fine print.
  • Manual dexterity to grasp and hold objects use fine manipulation write and operate the telephone.
  • Frequently participates in strenuous physical activities such as running sports and other related camp activities in outdoor locations. Frequent monitoring of children requiring the ability to detect and respond to emergencies and provide CPR or First Aid as required.

Equipment Used:

  • Telephone equipment cart arts and crafts supplies and sports equipment.

Transportation Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to and from work locations within the District.
  • Hours and Schedule:040 hours per week
  • Generally anywhere: Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday from 8 am 1 pm (Modified hours for training and other meetings when necessary).
  • May include nights and weekends as necessary.

Terms of Employment:

  • This is a seasonal position.
  • State law requires that the applicant selected for the position must complete the fingerprint process to check for or verify conviction record; TB test clearance is also required.
