REPORTS TO: Director of Financial Services
DEFINITION: Under general supervision processes and maintains payroll and procurement records and reports for Somerton School District #11.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

TASKS:
Prepare and process biweekly payroll for all district employees. Conducts audit of payroll and is responsible for maintaining and updating the time keeping system for all employees. Close each payroll complete payroll reports for all departments for biweekly payrolls and retain payroll record keeping based on State guidelines. Verifies processes prints and prepares computerized payroll documents. Assists payroll staff with problems or issues as and submits quarterly income tax returns including W2 forms. Prepares unemployment tax and wage reports. Audits health insurance voluntary benefit deductions and flexible spending employee benefits and process billing. Prepare journal entries set up new hires process buyouts calculate retirement incentives process garnishments and child support complete employee payroll verifications prepare payroll database in order to complete end of year rollover process. Performs a variety of other duties in support of the department.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of basic accounting and bookkeeping practices and methods.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures governing assigned work.
Knowledge of record keeping requirements for health and life insurance.
Knowledge of local state and federal laws regulations policies and procedures governing payroll.
Knowledge of general clerical and financial recordkeeping techniques.
Knowledge of modern office practices procedures and equipment.
Skill in maintaining appropriate payroll documentation and preparing reports.
Skill in utilizing basic accounting principles.
Skill in maintaining accurate financial records and accounts.
Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Skill in performing arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
Skill in following oral and written instructions.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed in an indoor requires frequent standing walking and positions may require bending and lifting up to 25 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED. Bachelors preferred or four 4 years experience in bookkeeping and/or payroll environment preferred. Fingerprint Clearance Card (IVP) required at the time of hiring. Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District.
Depending on the needs of the District some incumbents in this class must be able to demonstrate fluency in both English and Spanish as a condition of employment.
