ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Director Transit is responsible for managing and coordinating the fleet activities for York Region Transit (YRT) including the capital acquisitions and major refurbishing of fleet equipment. Manages the operating maintenance and upgrades of conventional Mobility On Request and bus rapid transit vehicles. Oversees planning development and construction of garages for bus operations maintenance and other transit facilities. Manages the administration operation maintenance and control of transit facilities including rapid transit station stops bus stops and terminals. Manages the asset management plan for the facilities. Monitors the progress and performance of contractors and other resources that construct and maintain fleet and transit facilities. Manages the development and preparation of contracts for fleet and facilities.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

  • Oversees the design development and construction of transit facilities in collaboration with internal and external partners. Identifies operational and equipment needs prepares or participates in the preparation of contract specifications tenders awards analyzes the costs and capabilities of contractors and makes recommendations accordingly.
  • Prepares or approves specifications to tenders RFPs quotes for purchase or maintenance of vehicles bus stops rapid ways customer amenities and other transit facilities.
  • Plans and maintains on street facilities rapid ways and terminals etc. in consultation with internal partners.
  • Develops business cases and negotiates contract extensions with service providers for the operations and maintenance of transit facilities.
  • Responsible for the implementation of branch energy conservation and demand management plan initiatives for fleet and facilities.
  • Develops monitors and implements acquisition strategy to meet transit needs for conventional and specialized transit services and the fleet maintenance program.
  • Manages the implementation of Transit Fleet Electrification Plan including facility and fleet requirements.
  • Manages the development and implementation of transit fleet renewal programs.
  • Assists the Director in preparing recommending monitoring and controlling the Branch capital and operating budget.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in Engineering Transportation Technology Fleet Management or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five 5 years progressive related experience in infrastructure operations and/or fleet management field consisting of project and operations management contract development and administration including demonstrated minimum of two 2 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of general asset management principles methodologies and strategies as they relate to the valuation and management of corporate physical assets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Legislation Standards Acts and Regulations.
  • Knowledge of transit operations fleet management practices project and risk management processes maintenance management methods and operational processes for transit infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of municipal and transit engineering and planning principles.
  • Ability to demonstrate the Regions leadership and core competencies.
  • Supervisory and human resource management skills knowledge of collective agreement administration and interpretation labour relations principles and practices and relevant employment legislation.
