Job Description

Description of Work

This position is assigned to the OSDT Samarcand Training Academy located in Jackson Springs North Carolina.


The Office of Staff Development and Training (OSDT) provides training for employees across the Department of Adult Corrections. OSDT has a staff of 91 instructors and support personnel who deliver basic training to correction and probation officers. The office also leads firearms training leadership education programs general instructor training other specialized classes and manages the delivery of the annual inservice training for more than 16000 certified employees.


The Correctional Training Instructor is responsible for the delivery and instruction of inservice training for the NCDAC Prisons and Division I of NCDAC Community Supervision. The position supports the delivery of training and instructs other Regions/Divisions as necessary to meet the evolving needs of the agency. The position also supports Prisons InService training in accordance with Community College Consortium agreements supports and delivers Community Supervision InService training and performs other training related functions including training logistics and training material development.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Writing course plans and objectives reviewing revising and developing lesson plans and training materials.
  • Delivering instruction independently and instructing as a member of an instructional team in accordance with approved training materials and methodology.
  • Researching materials for course development developing courses strategies and objectives modifying course content and participating in evaluation of courses.

Work is performed both independently and as a member of a training team with minimum supervision. This position reports to a Correction Training Coordinator I and is subject to review and evaluation through reports student feedback and stakeholders. Employees in this position will be required to obtain additional instructional certifications as required.


Note:Overnight travel is required in this position.

Additional Consideration Requirements:
  • Current required certification with the ability to maintain any and all certifications required by OSDT NCDAC and the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
  • Certification in Firearms and/or CRDT specialty certification with the condition of attaining the remaining specialty within 6 months of the start date.

Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Bachelors degree and two years of directly related instruction and training experience in the subject matter specialty;
OR
Graduation from high school and five years of experience;

Must have current required certification with the ability to maintain any and all certifications required by OSDT NCDPS and by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
