Activities Instructor

Salary:per annum plus accommodation.
Additional benefits include: generous pension scheme annual leave entitlement Employee Assistance Programme. There is also an opportunity to gain additional payments for relevant qualifications up to 2000 per annum.

Who we are:

Scripture Union Scotland is a national charity with around 120 staff and over 2200 volunteers. Our vision is to see every child and young person of Scotland exploring the Bible and responding to the significance of Jesus.

Our centres regularly host school groups participating in residential experiences youth groups enjoying weekend breaks and a variety of SU Holidays. Making the most of the stunning opportunities that Scotlands countryside affords we use outdoor activities to build relationships with young people enabling them to have fun develop new skills and work together.

We currently have a vacancy for an Activities Instructor to be based at our Alltnacriche Centre near Aviemore. Alltnacriche is located in the Cairngorm National park with accommodation for up to 58 guests.

Purpose:

As an Activities Instructor you will be part of an instruction team. The primary purpose of your role is to:

1. Deliver high quality activities from across the range provided by Alltnacriche adapting content and style as appropriate to meet to different needs of our guests.

2. Assist in the support and development of Trainee Instructors across SU Scotland centres through delivery of training modules and modelling of high quality activity sessions.

3. Articulate a personal Christian faith appropriately and in a wide variety of settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Play an integral part of the outdoor instructional team leading and instructing outdoor activity sessions
Assisting the Chief Instructor with the training of the Trainee Activities Instructors; both onsite activities and working towards NGBs
Look after guests during school residentials including some evening work
Participate fully in the life and ministry of Alltnacriche and the wider Scripture Union Scotland organisation.


Who we are looking for:

We are seeking applicants who have a passion for the outdoors and a desire to use their faith to work with children and young people. Applicants for this post should have at least 2 years experience of instructing activities and hold two NGB Award (either CWI Paddlesport Leader or MTB Level 2 Leader) and progress towards a third NGB as well as holding a current first aid certificate. Further NGB awards would be beneficial. A full UK Driving License is desirable (preferably with D1 E).

For this post it is important that you are committed to SU Scotlands ethos working principles and vision and are able to demonstrate this through your commitment and motivation. It is also an Occupational Requirement (Equality Act part 1 schedule 9 that the postholder is a committed Christian.

The successful applicant will be required to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme and the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory PVG Scheme Disclosure.
