About the role:
Are you a dedicated full stack web developer seeking the right opportunity to make a meaningful impact Join the Scientific Computing Software Department at the nonprofit privately funded Janelia Research Campus and work handinhand with worldclass scientists to build groundbreaking software using pioneering web and cloud technologies that help solve exciting biological questions focused on neuroscience and developmental biology. As a Senior Software Engineer on our team you will take the lead in creating innovative web applications and services from scratch and support and further develop our cuttingedge scientific web applications like NeuronBridge HortaCloud or neuPrint. Youll collaborate closely with subject matter experts and AI/ML professionals to tackle exciting computational challenges. We are open to various levels of experience.

What youll do:
Collaborate closely with scientists AI/ML experts scientific programmers and fellow software engineers at the forefront of scientific software development to deliver world class solutions.
Leverage your expertise to write excellent code that harnesses the power of opensource libraries deploy and maintain applications on premises and in the cloud and apply industry best practices like unit testing documentation and CI/CD.
Closely interact with scientists to understand their goals and workflows to effectively work as a team and proactively propose softwaredriven enhancements to accelerate their research efforts.
Support multiple projects some independently and others as part of a team.
What you bring:
A Bachelors Degree in computer science bioinformatics or a relevant field.
5 years of experience in full stack web development.
Demonstrated experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
Experience with at least one backend language such as Python or Java.
A thorough understanding of fundamental web technologies like HTTP HTML and CSS.
The ability to comprehend scientific problems in the biomedical research domain.
Adaptability to thrive in a fastpaced research environment with evolving requirements.
A diverse skill set and a passion for web development backend services DevOps automation and cloud technologies.
Ideally experience with modern web approaches such as React or Astro.

HHMI considers a candidates education previous experience knowledge skills and abilities as well as internal equity when making job offers.
