Job Description

Description

The Manager of Documentation Improvement reviews all Medicare inpatient medical records to ensure appropriate documentation of comorbidities and complicating diagnoses. This individual works as a cooperative team player with HIM coding staff to ensure understanding of coding rules and methodologies that impact DRG assignment. Once variance from appropriate documentation is identified the Manager makes certain that appropriate education and followup occurs with the appropriate provider or provider group to ensure compliance. The Manager Documentation Improvement coordinates work assignments and serves as a resource to Coordinated Care or other assigned staff as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION REQUIRED

Graduate of accredited School of Registered Nurses

licensed by the state of Georgia

EDUCATION PREFERRED

BSN or MSN


LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Current license/registration to practice as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in the state of Georgia

HIM/Coding certification/ACDIS Certification

LICENSURES OR CERTIFICATIONS PREFERRED

None


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Minimum of five years hospital experience in the care of short term acute patients

Comprehensive understanding of reimbursement mechanisms

Communication with physicians

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

Participation in chart review and medical record coding
