Avon MiddleHigh School is seeking a highly qualified candidate for the position of Principal for theschool year. A successful candidate will use their leadership supervisory and administrative skills to promote the educational development for each student in accordance with Massachusetts : 1. Meet all licensure and requirements as set forth by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education2. Masters Degree or higher from an accredited college or university3. At least three 3 years of successful teaching experience 4. Minimum of two 2 years of administrative experience or extensive educational leadership Responsibilities:1. Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school. 2. Plans organizes and directs implementation of all school activities. 3. Keeps the superintendent informed of the schools activities and problems. 4. Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction. 5. Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget. 6. Purchases textbooks and other school supplies in such a manner as the Superintendent may direct.7. Keeps an account of the books and supplies ordered by and delivered to each school and at the close of each school year report to the Superintendent a list of all books and supplies in the schools inventory and their condition. 8. Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports. 9. Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports records lists and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the schools administration. 10. Works with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems of more than inschool import such as transportation and special services. 11. Keeps supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisors accountability. 12. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Committee policies and regulations by the schools staff and students. 13. Maintains active relationships with students and parents. 14. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business. 15. Leads in the development determination of appropriateness and monitoring of the instructional program. 16. Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs. 17. Assists in the development revision and evaluation of the curriculum. 18. Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development. 19. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to due process rights of students. 20. Establishes guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline. 21. Attends special events held to recognize student achievement and attends school sponsored activities functions and athletic events. 22. Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities. 23. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.24. Assumes responsibility for the attendance conduct and maintenance of health of students. 25. Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations; attendance at regional state and national meetings; and enrollment in advanced courses. 26. Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings reading professional journals and other publications and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. 27. Supervises all professional paraprofessional administrative and support personnel attached to the school. 28. Assists in the recruiting screening hiring training assigning and evaluating the schools professional staff. 29. Supervises the schools teaching process. 30. Approves the master teaching schedule mentors and any special assignments. 31. Orients newly assigned staff members and assists in their development as appropriate. 32. Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performance. 33. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school. 34. Assists in the inservice orientation and training of teachers with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions. 35. Recommends according to established procedures the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory. 36. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers. 37. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant. 38. Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes. 39. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program. 40. Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established Board policy.41. Assumes responsibility for cochairing secondary school council. 42. Defines the composition of the school council. 43. Meets regularly with the council to assist in identifying the educational and budget needs of the school and to develop the School Improvement Plan. 44. In consultation with the council establishes and adopts educational goals student performance standards and a professional development plan. 45. With the council prepares and distributes a student handbook. 46. Assumes responsibility for the general supervision of the grounds buildings appurtenances and shall be held responsible for the neatness and cleanliness of the premises.47. Oversees and monitors annual State mandated testing program. 48. Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119 Section 51A). 49. Complies with the NonViolent Crisis Intervention Policy. 50. Any other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
