WORK SCHEDULE:Livein position requires participating in oncall rotation and limited Community Center coverage during business hours of 8am to 7pm; may work up to 19 hours per week

POSITION PURPOSE/ROLE:
The Resident Assistant is the livein position responsible for an assigned area within the Founders Hall Community. The Resident Assistant works in all phases of resident living with the Residence Life Coordinator. They serve as a liaison between College administration and the residents of the community to foster an atmosphere for student learning social cultural and emotional growth in the hall by serving as an advisor/peer mentor to the residents; and to assist the Residence Life Coordinator in promoting the general wellbeing community living in Founders Hall. This position reports to the Residence Life Coordinator.
TIME COMMITMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Resident Assistant position is a substantial time commitment. While it is difficult to give an hour/week expectation time requirements will demand skill in time management to allow optimum academic and extracurricular participation. As such academic good standing and flexibility toward outside commitments are needed. Resident Assistants time commitments include:
General
- Attend and participate in regular staff meetings and scheduled oneonone meetings with the Residence Life Coordinator.
- Work a prescheduled 515 hours at the Community Center throughout the week and as needed when the Residence Life Coordinator or Community Center Assistants are unavailable.
- Assist in the supervision of the residence hall responding to all requests and emergencies during duty shifts.
- Attend and participate in staff training and building opening/closing held prior to the beginning of each semester and throughout the year. Dates listed below are subject to change.
- Contact the Residence Life Coordinator on behalf of the residents regarding issues of concern to the residents.
- Be available to residents on a daily basis and perform other tasks as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with Residence Life and FERPA policies.
Community and Student Development
- Provide guidance to residents regarding personal and academic concerns.
- Assist residents in their adjustment to roommate and community living.
- Design and implement experiences for residents that enhance the social educational community and personal development and connects them to the floor the Founders Hall community and FVCC.
- Actively encourage and promote involvement in Founders Hall & FVCC Student programs and activities.
- Design and construct door decorations prior to the beginning of each semester and monthly educational bulletin boards.
- Conduct periodic building meetings for the purpose of planning experiences disseminating information and explaining Founders Hall policies and procedures.
- Relate well to individuals of all ethnic racial cultural gender sexual and religious backgrounds encouraging better understanding of cultural diversity and individual differences on the floor and in the residence hall.
- Respond to all witnessed violations of the FVCC Student Code of Conduct and the Founders Hall Community Standards and Expectations occurring within Founders Hall.
- Prepare and submit the appropriate reports to the Residence Life Coordinator within 24 hours.
Administrative
- Actively inform residents of pertinent information provided by the Residence Life Coordinator.
- Assist as requested in the handling of all emergency situations (e.g. fire health safety).
- Assist in the opening and closing of the residence halls requiring time prior to the beginning of semester courses and time following the completion of these courses.
- Receive and promptly process requests for maintenance repairs and custodial needs received from residents.
- Assess the physical condition of rooms before and after occupancy preparing and filing the appropriate forms in a timely fashion.
OnCall
RAs respond to lockouts emergency situations and policy violations. They also monitor Founders Hall conditions and notify the Residence Life Coordinator about maintenance and custodial necessities as needed. Being oncall is an ideal time to be visible throughout the residence hall. It provides time to visit with residents and socialize with other RAs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a fulltime FVCC student for the academic year of 2025/2026 with at least one semester as a fulltime student completed upon August start date;
- Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.75
- Must be able to work for the full academic year and be available to participate/attend the following important dates (subject to change):
- Must be in good behavior and academic standing
- Must uphold FVCC Student Code of Conduct and the Student Housing Community Standards and expectations at all times
- Must not hold other employment during the employment period without written permission from the Residence Life Coordinator; such employment should not exceed ten 10 hours per week nor should it interfere with duties noted in the Resident Assistant position description

Develop an endless supply of skills and abilities and have experiences that are going to be relevant to almost any profession. Resident Assistants acquire interpersonal teamwork communication problemsolving & leadership skills through the job.
PREDICTED LEARNING OUTCOME:
Create/Develop a positive living environment designed to link community faculty and residents often resolving conflict; promote academic excellence address student needs and encourage involvement among residents in a way that supports the mission of the College and Residence Life; promote the interaction and construction of social networks between community and residents; market/develop/lead studentcentered hall programs to promote social education diversity health emotional understanding and growth; assist in the selection evaluation and training of incoming Resident Assistants.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT GUIDELINES:
- Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six 6 credits for fall or spring semester to qualify for student employment.
- Students may not work beyond 19 hours per week during semester.
- Student workers shall be actively engaged; no use of cell phones (except in case of emergency) or social media.
- Student workers shall demonstrate a commitment to the job with adherence to work schedule effective communication/interpersonal skills and quality customer service skills to be a representative of FVCC.
