Position Description:
- The Hospital/Homebound Teacher provides students enrolled in the Hospital/Homebound Program with
- engaging challenging schoolwork in which they persist when they experience difficulty and from which they
- gain a sense of satisfaction. The goal is to promote the academic mental physical emotional/social growth of the
- student enrolled in the Hospital/Homebound Program.

Scope of Responsibility:
- Uses available instructional materials and a variety of techniques in providing opportunities for student
- achievement and development.
- Uses internetbased curriculum and other available webbased resources for instructional purposes.
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of subject matter.
- Keeps accurate neat records including report cards progress reports weekly schedules and weekly
- assignment sheets.
- Insures an environment conducive to learning.
- Develops rapport with parents students schoolbased administrators teachers and staff.
- Be punctual with progress reports assignments and records.
- Collects books workbooks and materials at the school where the student is enrolled.
- Plans and prepares for classes submitting lesson plans weekly.
- Reports regularly and punctually to assigned work location.
- Keeps accurate records of students time sheets and mileage.
- Notifies the principal/designated person and Executive Director Health and Related Services of
- impending absence.
- Plans instructional schedules convenient to childs medical needs.
- Reviews evaluations previous IEPs and pertinent student data for the purposes of developing student IEPs
- for hospital/homebound services.
- Must be able to be empathetic to the needs of families with ill students.
- Assists with positioning of student when necessary for maximum instructional benefit.
- Maintains properly the books and equipment assigned to the student.
- Become knowledgeable about methods programs curriculum guides procedural bulletins and available
- resources in the system.
- Uses a variety of methods for diagnosis and/or placement purposes.
- Provides minimum of four 4 hours per week of educational programming to each student assigned in
- accordance with state requirements.
- Creates engaging school work for students that is goal oriented and meaningful.
- Completes and maintain student records using technology programs outlined in parish policy.
- Maintains security of electronic and print records with regard to confidentiality of student information and
- passwords that are issued for access to data bases.
- Possesses a working knowledge and the ability to compose and implement a Functional Behavioral
- Assessment and a Behavior Education Plan.
- Develops a repertoire of early intervention activities that are consistent with the response to intervention
- model.
- Acquires thirtysix 36 Continuing Learning Units (CLUs) per year (July 1 through June 30.
- Maintains accurate case records in accordance with the requirements of parish state and federal laws
- regulations and/or policies regarding exceptional children.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the Executive Director Health and Related Services.
Skills and Qualifications:

- achievement and who have a record of high performance in challenging situations. Successful candidates will also
- demonstrate and/or possess:
- College Degree Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate with certification in elementary and/or high school
- and at least one area of special education.
- Transportation provisions for required itinerant duties.
- Three 3 years successful teaching experience.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in multiple settings and the ability to be an engaging change
- agent and culturecreator that can inspire and motivate.
- Exceptional analytical and problemsolving skills with an ability to use quantitative and qualitative data to
- make decisions and recommendations.
- Working knowledge of federal and state laws policies and regulations relevant to special education.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and skilled in Google Docs and Sheets.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bilingual.
- Masters Degree.
- Experience with various age groups elementary through high school.
- Physical Involvement:
- Must be able to provide own transportation to schools homes work locations and meetings both inside and out of
- the parish. Must have mobility skills necessary to access a variety of school home and community environments.
- Sitting standing walking reaching bending and lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
