Summary:
A carpenter is responsible for working with wood and metal to build and repair structures and other items and they also may have to select and source appropriate materials depending on project needs. Their duties include calculating quotes meeting with clients and creating design plans for remodeling projects.

The Carpenter reports to the Superintendentsor Project Manager as assigned.

Core Job Duties:

• Installs foundations walls floors ceilings and roofs using materials such as: wood steel metal concrete plastics and composites of multiple materials.
• Fits and installs window frames doors door frames door hardware interior and exterior trim using a carpenters level plumb bob and laser levels.
• Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures aboveground levels.
• Studies specifications in blueprints sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
• Shapes or cuts materials to specified measurements using hand tools machines or power saws.
• Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
• Builds or repairs cabinets doors frameworks floors or other wooden fixtures used in buildings using woodworking machines hand tools or power tools.
• Assembles and fastens materials to make frameworks or props using hand tools and wood screws nails dowel pins or glue.
• Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repair or replace using hand tools.
• Inspects ceiling or floor tile wall coverings siding glass or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
• Installing wooden structures such as roofing frames rafters partitions joists and stud work
• Designing and installing cabinets shelving fitted furniture drywall and insulation
• Adding fixtures and fittings such as door handles locks hinges and closures
• Selecting lumber by size and strength to suit each job sourcing wood to suit the customers budget and style
• Calculating the number of fasteners required for each job
• Liaising with clients suppliers and other construction professionals
• Reading blueprints and designs to work to specifications prepared by other construction professionals architects and building code recommendations
• Moves necessary materials around Jobsite as assigned.
• Cleans up worksite debris.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Hold weekly job site safety meetings

Requirements

• Accurately follow instructions from foreman/superintendent
• Developed knowledge of tools and equipment
• Advanced knowledge of framework & finish carpentry and ability to assist/teach others
• Ability to accurately install/remove doors and windows
• Strong communication; must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with team members.Bilingual preferred
• Ability to anticipate needs
• Actively contribute to a safe working environment for all team members
• Ability to lift & load materials and equipment
• Proficiency in plan reading and material takeoff
• Organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
• Safety OSHA 10 or 30 preferred
