JOB TITLE: HVAC Mechanic

Maintenance Department

REPORT TO: HVAC Foreman

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

PAY GRADE: Aux 8


PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The HVAC Mechanic is involved in the installation maintenance repair or modification of all HVAC systems circuits and equipment; performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

:

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Valid Texas Drivers license
  • 3 years job related experience

Preferred:

  • Five years of experience of air and water cooled chiller experience
  • State of Texas HVAC Class B License

SPECIAL NOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Possess knowledge and skill of the equipment methods materials practices and tools used in the HVAC trade
  • Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions and ability to take safety precautions including the use of power tools and equipment consistent with the HVAC trade
  • Ability to perform inspections and annuals of chillers
  • Ability to troubleshoot chiller controls electrical problems repair and/or replace compressors from 10 to 100 tons
  • Ability to use a laptop computer to update chillers software chiller operation and part replacement such as sensors transducers etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot repair and/or replace water pumps
  • Ability to test and maintain proper chemical levels of hot and chill water loops
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions diagrams and manufacturers manuals
  • Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Possession of an appropriate valid Texas vehicle operators license
  • Must know how to use major computer operating systems (Word Excel Google) and work order systems.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Cooperates and supports in the performance of HVAC duties necessary to keep the District physical facilities in good repair and in use for their intended purpose.
    • Participates in the installation and repair of equipment and controls.
    • Participates in the installation of new or modified HVAC equipment.
    • Completes preventative maintenance inspections of equipment as assigned.
    • Insures the proper HVAC repair parts equipment and tools are available at work site.
    • Prepares all assigned tasks to ensure safe effective and efficient completion of all job assignments.
    • Demonstrates ability to investigate and determine the uptodate information concerning applicable local state and national HVAC codes and insures compliance to those codes in performance of assigned work tasks.
    • Actively participates and completes formal training in HVAC codes equipment tools and methods. Continually improves technical knowledge through independent research and study.
    • Responds to emergency callouts as required. 7 days a week/24 hours a day)
    • May be required to work night and/or varying shifts.
    • Keeps vehicle supplied with tools and materials.
    • Follows all safety regulations related to any and all trade areas.
    • Performs other general maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited for:
      • Parking lot repair.
      • Moving furniture and equipment.
      • Responding to emergency or crisis situations in the District.

Type of Equipment Used:

Laptop ladders scaffolds safety eye goggles small hand tools various power tools and equipment necessary to perform required tasks respirator HVAC diagnosis equipment and CFC reclamation equipment.

Audio Visual Demands:

Average hearing corrected 20/20 vision good depth perception and ability to distinguish between colors.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Rubber gloves and goggles are required when working with any chemicals. Back support belts should be worn when lifting.

Required Training:

  1. 1st day orientation Hazardous Communications/MSDS/Fire Safety/Proper Lifting Techniques/Eye Safety.
  2. 180 Day onthejob training and TwoHour Asbestos Training Awareness.
  3. 24 hours of hands on training by the HVAC Supervisor.
  4. On going Staff Development.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: ability to work in a fastpaced highintensity work environment efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions. Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer. Overtime is required as necessary.
