About the Position

WHO WE ARE

The primary focus of The Office of the County Executive is to provide policy direction reinforce accountability and ensure that county departments provide effective and efficient services to our residents. The office oversees the enforcement of the laws of Montgomery County and oversees operations and services of over 30 executive branch departments and a 10000person workforce supportinga jurisdictionthat is over 500 square miles with 1.06 million residents.


The Montgomery County Business Center (the Business Center) is part of the Office of the County Executive and this diverse team of highly professional staff provide comprehensive services to thousands of small business owners each year answering their questions connecting them to critical resources and navigating the Countys processes. The teamassistedmore than 2000 small business owners last year.


Our team covers a wide variety of services and programs. The team includes the Countys Small Business Navigator a legislated position toidentifyand resolve issues within County Government for businesses in addition to creating programming andassistingbusinesses. We have a group of Business Liaisons that conduct doortodoor proactive outreach to our storefront community in addition to the wraparound services for anyassistancerequested by our business community. We have a dedicated team of Program Managers that oversee the daytoday operations and programs for the Countys Innovation Centers that support earlystage entrepreneurs. We have a small group of staff focused on delivering almost $2.0 million in services through our resource partners through contract administration and more than $4.0 million in business grants.



WHO WE ARELOOKING FOR

The Montgomery County Business Center is seeking a Business Liaison to join its team. This positionis responsible for establishingstrong working relationships with businesses through regular facetoface contact that fosters support and encourages participation in the Countys entrepreneurial ecosystem.


What Youll Be Doing

The Business Liaison is a fulltime professional staff responsible forassistingand connecting with businesses and resources toassistbusinesses. Key responsibilities include:


  • Proactively connect with businesses in the community through facetoface outreach indifferent partsof the County to share resources andidentifysolutions to challenges.

  • Respond to business queries and feedback related to doing business in the County and providing information and guidance to those businesses. This might include meeting with businesses virtually and inperson.

  • Share information with businesses about the County Governments laws regulations license permits registrations resources and policies that affect their operations in the County.

  • Identifygaps in programs and service delivery to businesses and provide solutions to those gaps through collaboration with County agencies thirdparty partners and the business community.

  • Create orparticipatein training workshops that enable businesses to start or grow their operations in the County.

  • Utilize a Client Management System to document and report on your efforts toassistand engage businesses to support the creation or redistribution of resources to support businesses better.

  • The Business Liaison must be able to work in a fastpaced highperformance environment. Additionally the person selected for this position is expected toparticipateand contribute to an inclusive workplace where all staff feel comfortable and respected.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Five 5 years professional experience in small business assistance entrepreneurial business support economic development customer service operations or a combination thereof.**Please ensure you document clearly on your resume including Months/Yearsexperience in small business assistance entrepreneurial business support economic development customer service operations or a combination thereof**


Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree.


Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Preferred Criteria Interview Preferences

Preference for interviews will be given to candidates withdemonstratedexperience in the following areas:


  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong customer service skillsdemonstratingthe ability to help and work with customers of diverse backgrounds and challenges

  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills

  • Experience using a Client Relationship Management System to aggregate and report data

  • Experience using multilingual skills with businesses

  • The ability to work independently and as a member of a team

  • The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while working with stakeholders from various backgrounds industries cultures and levels of government.
