As a Senior Manager supporting Research and Developmentyou will be trusted to Plan conduct and directs multiple research and development projects of major importance to Alcons longterm future which are difficult and complex in nature requiring the expert application of advanced knowledge in a broad area of in ophthalmic medical device/science/technology. Works closely with an agile cross functional group producing scientific/technical concepts and principles applicable to furthering the business interests of the organization. Key functional handson expert who manages directs and coordinates the activities of a small team members in material science and engineering. This position is in Belmont CA. In this role a typical day will include:
- Exhibit an exceptional degree of creativity and resourcefulness.
- Applies and/or develops highly advanced technologies scientific principles theories and concepts.
- Acts with a small cross functional team to uncover and resolve problems associated with the development and implementation of operational programs. Work is checked only to the effectiveness of results obtained typically requiring a long time perspective. Virtually selfsupervisory.
- Collaborative leadership: Create a culture of collaboration and experience to deal with high ambiguity preferably in a small company environment.
- Effective in interpreting and prioritizing technical challenges and having her/his team deliver solutions in a focused manner. Sharp understanding of big picture ability to prioritize and distill it down to details.
- Supports engineering or scientific decision making by providing advice and recommendations to global project teams. Develop concepts and propose approach to address identified ophthalmic medical device/science/technology needs.
- Originate and apply complex concepts and propose new and unique approaches methods procedures and designs with regular use of creativity and originality to research and/or development.
- Assure continuity of products and processes assessment feasibility research design development compliance to customer and noncustomer requirements transfer to production.
- Provides leadership direction determining and developing approach to solutions by coordinating multiple resources to solve complex problems.
- Lead design reviews assign and review action items or delegate these tasks.
- Ensure regulatory / statutory / legislative compliance for all project work.
- Act as a mentor in the material science and engineering organization may direct the activities of senior professionals to accomplish objectives.
- Accountable for success of all projects undertaken by the material team members.
What Youll Bring to Alcon:
- Bachelors Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school 15 yrs; Assoc.11 yrs; M.S.4 yrs)
- 7 Years of Relevant Experience
- The ability to fluently read write understand and communicate in English
