Job Description

Anticipated Middle School Science Teacher

Description:


Middle school science teachers are responsible for utilizing researchbased pedagogical
strategies to teach and engage diverse groups of students in middle school. Middle school teachers must collaborate with their schoolbased team fellow science teachers and the K8 Director of STEM and Science Instructional Coach throughout the year to continually improve the experience and performance of our students. Teachers should be wellversed in Massachusetts Middle School Science Standards Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) practices and Universal Design to ensure access to content for all students. Teachers must exercise culturally responsive practices to promote equity and respect for all students.


Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Science Education or Related Field
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification Science Grades 58
  • SEI Endorsement


Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Masters Degree in Education and/or Science
  • 3 or more years of middle school teaching experience
  • Experience working in an urban public school setting
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and multilingual learners preferred.
  • Proficiency in reading writing and speaking in another language in addition to English.

Essential Duties:

  • Plan and facilitate lessons aligned with the Science Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and districtprovided curricula.
  • Use all available technology curricula provided by the district to create engaging science lessons that are linked with 21st Century skills.
  • Manage classroom behavior with Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies that motivate students limit disruptions and create a sense of belonging.
  • Incorporate socialemotional learning standards and curriculum that promote a sense of belonging inclusion selfconfidence teambuilding and informed decisionmaking.
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Collaborate and coplan with Special Education and ESL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and English Learners.
  • Using evidencebased culturally and linguistically sustaining instructional practices to provide equitable opportunities for gradelevel learning.
  • Administer assessments and utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target students academic and linguistic needs including MCAS and ACCESS as well as districtwide formative and summative assessments.
  • Utilize inclusive practices and SEI strategies for students on IEPs and English Learners.
  • Incorporate language activities that align with the WIDA Standards into content instruction including listening speaking reading and writing to meet the needs of multilingual learners.
  • Utilize available data to make instructional decisions that target the academic and
    linguistics needs of students.
  • Creates and maintains a safe supportive and inclusive environment by establishing classroom routines and systems to support student learning.
  • Plan and facilitate science lab activities when aligned with State Standards with the
    appropriate safety protocols and necessary training.
  • Communicate with students families regularly using culturally responsive strategies that promote twoway conversations.
  • Assist in ordering and managing supplies necessary for science classrooms.
  • Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to urban educations challenges to close opportunity gaps.
  • Proctor assessments for students on exams including formative and summative assessments MCAS and ACCESS.
  • Collaborate with school adjustment and guidance counselors to support students social emotional and mental health needs.
  • Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review IEPs and ensure all accommodations are consistently and adequately delivered.
  • Contribute to schoolwide initiatives and events which may be assigned by the Principal Assistant Principals and K8 Director of STEM.

Salary/Benefits:

Salary for this position will be based on the Everett Teachers Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
