Job Description
The Times Union an awardwinning daily news organization based in New Yorks Capital Region seeks an enterprising digitally savvy and endlessly curious news reporter to cover the Rensselaer County geographical beat. This position requires the ability to juggle competing priorities and a wide range of topics: municipal governments court cases law enforcement issues local communities and personalities and more.
Job responsibilities:
- Bring energy and enthusiasm to looking beyond the surface to break news and tell impactful stories;
- Produce daily and longerterm enterprise content including features as well as datadriven investigative pieces for use across multiple platforms with a digitalfirst mindset;
- Create photos videos social media posts as essential elements of multidimensional storytelling;
- Work collaboratively and collegially with reporters photographers editors and producers
Requirements:
- Minimum of three years working as a daily news reporter;
- Bachelors degree in journalism English history political science or equivalent experience preferred;
- Strong clear accurate writing ability that demonstrates attention to detail and grammar;
- Strong news judgment;
- Ability to confront officials handle difficult conversations and hold people accountable;
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

In accordance with applicable law Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York State. The reasonable estimate if hired in New York State is$55K$65K.Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State. If this role is open to candidates outside of New York State the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidates starting salary will be based on a number of permissible nondiscriminatory factors including but not limited to skills and experience training certifications and education.
