This announcement is specific to theGymnasticCamp. If interested in other camp program areas you must applydirectlyto those positions.

TheDepartment of Parks & Recreation(DPR) Gymnastics Camp is seeking Camp Instructorsand Assistants to support camp programs and instruct campers ages 69 years old in beginnerintermediate level gymnastics skills.



Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  • Teaching gymnastics skills managing gymnastics rotations overseeing camp activities such as craftsgames (inside/outside) water dayand other activities as scheduled;
  • Supervising camperssnacks and special visits;
  • Preparing for camp activities completing attendance reportscompletingcamp paperwork
  • Setting upand breaking down equipment before and after campincluding inspecting and reporting unsafe equipment.

Gymnastics Summer Camp runs from June 23 August 15 (core camp dates). Staff must be able to commit to working at least the first half (sessions 1 4 or second half of camp (sessions Trainings begin mid to late May through June which will include online courses virtual and inperson trainings during weekday evenings and a few Saturdays Camp hours are from 9:00am3:00pm working hours for camp are from 8:30am3: positions are available.

Selection Criteria

Applications are being accepted for the following positions:

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT II: $16.32/Hourly
Assisting with managing recreation activities behavior management of participants andevaluations of activities.

RECREATION INSTRUCTOR I: $21.02/Hourly
Assisting in the planning and managing recreation activities behavior management of participants and the evaluations of activities and participants.

RECREATION INSTRUCTOR II: $24.93/Hourly
Planning and leading recreation and gymnastics activities.



Qualifications

SUMMER RECREATION ASSISTANT II

  • Less than High School Diploma/Equivalent including currently enrolled student
  • Experienceworking with youth or administering summer camp/recreation programs.

RECREATION INSTRUCTOR I

  • High school/GED; plus
  • 400 hours of technicalgymnastics experience including anywork volunteer or formal art participation.

RECREATION INSTRUCTOR II

  • High school/GED; plus
  • 800 hours of technicalgymnasticsexperienceincluding anywork volunteer or formal art participation. Must have50 hours as an instructor.

* Instructor Substitution: Additional education in a related field may be substituted for the experience requirement with each year of posthigh school education substituting for 400 hours of technical experience. However additional education may notsubstitutethe instructing hours.

Successful candidates will have good character and integrity effective communication skills reliable transportation including the ability to complete tasks take initiative and work successfully in a team in teaching gymnastics skills will be provided.

Desirables:Preference may be given to candidates with experience/certification in the following:

  • Workingin Summer Camp programs orArlington Camps;
  • Interest and/or experience in promoting physical fitness;
  • Teaching gymnastics or involvement in a competitive or recreational gymnastics program;
  • Experience and/or willingness to work with individuals with disabilities; and/or
  • Possess gymnastics certification(s).

Special Requirements

If selected all summer staff may be required to:

  • Agree to a criminal background check(for applicants 18 years and older).
  • Provide references which may be included to this application.
  • Attend all required trainings wear a uniform and have the ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for a prolonged periods of time during the work shift.
  • Be CPR and First Aid Certified by the first day of camp for designated positions.
  • Possess a driver license and successfully complete a driving license record check(for applicants 18 years and older).
  • Provide personal care as needed to campers (training provided).
  • Arlington County requires that all employees have a bank account to accept direct payroll deposits.

Work Hours: Monday Friday 8:30 am 3:30pm.
