JOB SUMMARY

This internship supports the Special Programs Manager and Program Coordinators in the daily operations of multiple animalfocused initiatives. The intern will assist in developing implementing and organizing programs that serve the shelters animal population. Responsibilities include coordinating daily tasks engaging with the community and contributing to program outreach and efficiency.

Ideal candidates have a strong interest in community engagement event coordination and volunteerism. Applicants should be comfortable in a fastpaced environment and passionate about assisting underserved populations and their pets. The position primarily follows a TuesdaySaturday schedule with flexible hours to accommodate academic commitments.

Applicants must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor OR Graduate program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not allinclusive.   • Supports programs that promote adoptable animals and increase awareness of shelter services.
  • Assists in planning implementing tracking and reporting shelter and adoption awareness programs.
  • Helps facilitate community education on responsible pet ownership including training sessions and speaking engagements.
  • Coordinates and assists with events volunteer activities adoptions donations and special initiatives.
  • Develops and strengthens partnerships with businesses libraries community centers public housing complexes faithbased organizations internal departments and other stakeholders.
  • Aids in event coordination including staffing logistics and volunteer management.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

Knowledge of:

  • Event planning principles practices and logistics management.
  • Basic recordkeeping procedures and documentation standards.
  • Computer applications and software relevant to program coordination.
  • Animal breeds temperaments and best practices for matching animals with adopters.
  • Proper handling restraint and confinement techniques along with occupational safety protocols when working with animals.

Skills and Abilities to:

  • Perform duties in a manner that encourages contributions and business for Animal Services
  • Research different marketing outreach and promotional concepts in use by other national and regional animal welfare organizations
  • Comfortably speaking before groups of people
  • Work in a fastpaced work environment embrace and foster change solve problems and multitask
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public volunteers and staff
  • Be selfsufficient and work with attention to detail
  • Handle the physical and emotional aspects of work in an animal shelter environment
  • Work independently

PAY: $17.00/hour

START DATE: The internship begins May 2025 (start date flexible) and ends August 2025. There may be the possibility of an extension.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires twisting and bending. Interns are frequently exposed to loud noises unpleasant odors cleaning agents pet dander zoonotic diseases and dangerous animals that may bite. Interns may lift carry push and pull loads of 2040 pounds on an intermittent basis and occasionally up to 80 pounds.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION:

The ability to travel to offsite facilities for training and special events as needed is required. Must be available to work evenings weekends as needed and in emergency situations.
