Role: CCSU School Health Aide (Licensed/Unlicensed)Primary Purpose: Maintain standard clinic activities in collaboration with the licensed school nurse by:Caring for student health injuries and/or illnesses in an expedient and safe mannerProvide a supportive and healthy environment which will minimize absenteeism and create a climate of wellbeing enhancing learning opportunities for :High school diplomaValid LNA license MA or EMT is preferredValid CPR/AED and First Aid certification or willingness to become certifiedStrong organizational communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to react quickly calmly and decisively in a crisisBasic understanding of medical terminologyExperience:2 years of experience in a medical fieldExperience administering medications preferredWillingness to complete a medication administration training course once hiredEssential Duties: Float between the 7 schools of CCSU to provide support to the licensed school nurse and/or to cover the school health office in the absence of the school nurseUnder the guidance and supervision of a Licensed School Nurse: Administers first aid to injured students and provides shortterm care to enhance the comfort and safety of injured or ill and records medications to students in accordance with district guidelinesTakes and records vital signsAdministers health screenings (vision hearing) per state guidelinesMaintains student electronic health records including immunization records medical alerts screening results and rendered health servicesReports observations to school nurse or school nurse coordinator when appropriateMay be required to perform specialized procedures after proper training by the School NurseFacilitates sending ill or injured students home or to appropriate facilitiesMay need to communicate with student families and/or local area health agenciesIn the absence of the school nurse documents employee injuries and reports to school nurse and HRMaintains a clean organized health officeFollows universal precautions and infection control techniquesMaintain student and staff confidentiality/privacy in accordance with HIPPA FERPA and district policiesPerforms other related duties as assignedUAPs may not assess or make nursing judgments when in doubt contact the licensed school nurse or school nurse coordinator for Used: Thermometer blood pressure cuff stethoscope pulse oximeter audiometer vision screening charts/equipment basic clinic equipment personal computer and copierWorking Conditions: Maintain emotional control under stress work with frequent interruptions.
