The Metropolitan Councils Environmental Services (MCES) Division has three 3 vacancies for apprentice electricians (longterm temporary; up to two years). This position will require travel between various MCES facilities within the Twin Cities metro area.

Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (MCES) is an operating division of the Metropolitan Council. MCES operates and maintains the wastewater collection and treatment system for the MinneapolisSt. Paul sevencounty metropolitan area which includes approximately 600 miles of regional sanitary sewers and eight regional wastewater treatment plants. MCES treats an average of 250 million gallons of wastewater daily providing costeffective service to more than 2.6 million people in 109 customer communities. MCES treatment plants consistently earn state and national awards for complete compliance with their environmental permits. MCES is also nationally renowned for its superior work in monitoring air and water quality and planning for a longrange water supply to meet future demand.

Maintains personnel protection system for fire hydrogen sulfide and hydrocarbon alarm systems.
Performs electrical construction work. Verifies proper operation with collection/plant system processes.
Troubleshoots and repairs various electrical/electronic equipment including PLC VFD MCC telemetry and SCADA systems.
Performs calibration and verification on various process instrumentation metering and recording devices (pressure level flow weight etc.
Checks and maintains emergency service equipment.
Completes job reports on labor and material.
Works with maintenance management systems (WAM) process control systems (Cimplicity/Wonderware) and other computer system software programs.
Maintains monitoring systems at lift stations meter sites river quality monitoring regulators and rain gauge sites.
Diagnoses and repairs integration devices between field devices and process computers.
Provides welding to support the electrical group.
Tests installs and repairs sacrificial and rectifiertype cathodic protection systems.
Performs other related duties.

Working Environment:Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in wastewater treatment plant facilities and collection sites including underground lift stations meter vaults sewers and control vaults. This position requires extensive travel within the sevencounty metro area and driving between work sites.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work underground in high or precarious positions and confined spaces. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders approximately 50 of the time. May be required to operate boom trucks and aerial equipment. Must have physical ability to perform work in awkward and cramped positions; requires crouching kneeling and stooping for extended periods. In addition performs repetitive motions including bending twisting pushing and pulling. Must be able to work in noisy conditions and around equipment where odorous fumes oil grease and chemicals are present.

If you are new to the Metropolitan Council you must pass a drug test (safetysensitive positions only) and a background check which verifies education employment and criminal history. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the job. If you have a criminal conviction you do not automatically fail. The Metropolitan Council considers felony gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor convictions on a casebycase basis based on whether they relate to the job and whether the candidate has demonstrated adequate rehabilitation.

In that case you must pass a background check which verifies your education and employment. a drug test (if moving from a nonsafety sensitive position to a safetysensitive position) and a criminal background check if the job youre applying for is safetysensitive is a supervisory or management job is in the Finance Information Services Audit or Human Resources departments or has access to financial records files/databases cash vouchers or transit fare cards. A driving record check and/or physical may be conducted if applicable to the position.
