POSITION TITLE:HIPPY Home Based Educator (HBE)
The implementation of the HIPPY model is centered on the recruitment training and professional development of parents as home based educators (HBEs) from the immediate community. These HBEs provide the family home or virtual instruction and are the key to the direct success of our HIPPY program.
REPORTS TO:HIPPY Coordinator
REQUIREMENTS:
- Be a wellfunctioning individual showing maturity and understanding of her/his community.
- Identify with the local population and be able to work comfortably with parents in their homes.
- Show potential leadership with good oral expression appropriate reading skills and good writing ability.
- Have an understanding of computer skills use virtual communicationand online formats and submit information by required deadlines.
- Current credential requirements are:
- Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education
- CDA Certificate (can obtain the first year as HBE provided by WDMESC)
- A higher degree with 12 college hours in Early Childhood
- A staff member may be required to work under an approved Staff Qualifications Plan
6. Current professional development requirements are:
PreK Ella; CDELS; Index: Math and Science or EDELS; Social Emotional Learning; COPA and 30 hours of staff development in Early Childhood each year.*Provided by WDMESC.
7. Must submit any/all documentation requested by ABC (Arkansas Better Chance) WDMESC and(or) your local school district. This includes but is not limited to: transcripts diploma Educators License background check immunization records registration with the Maltreatment Center Registry valid drivers license social security card PDR Registration.
8. Must attend any other training workshop or conference required by the local district WDMESC Arkansas HIPPY Arkansas Better Chance or HIPPY USA.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
A homebased educator meets with each parent in the home/virtual weekly or as assigned by the coordinator. There will also be 6 group meetings during the year that together the homebased educators will plan for their families to attend.
In addition the Homebased educator:
- Obtains all student documentation or pending documentation.
- Reviews the activity packets from the previous week & discusses anyissues the parent may have encountered while working with the child for possible solutions and suggestions.
- Instructs the parent in the next weeks material provides the family with current program information and provides the family with enrichment activities for the child.
- Meets weekly with the coordinator to report on each familys progress discuss and receive the next weeks materials submit all required paperwork and update all required computer data.
- Keeps records of all home visits and group meetings and submits them to the coordinator recruits and screens students inputs computer information online (currently COPA) and submits all required information weekly to the field coordinator.
- With supervision from the Field Coordinator the HBE will evaluate the children twice yearly andconducta parent/teacher conference twice yearly.
- Communicates any concerns to the coordinator for further discussion/action.
- The HBE is a paraprofessional type position. Each school district determines the salary schedule and any benefits applicable to the position. The HBE position is contracted for 160 days.
