Job Summary/Basic Function

The primary responsibility of the Graduate Assistant for the Maryville University Occupational Therapy Program is to support the mission and vision of the program by assisting faculty with teaching and research activities. This position reports to the Course Instructor for OCTH 506 Applied Anatomy OCTH 518 Biomechanical Aspects of Occupation and the Program Director of the Occupational Therapy Program.

Primary duties for the fall semester are to serve as a Lab Instructor for OCTH 506. This will include attending all lab sessions developing open lab activities and supervising open lab sessions. In the spring semester duties will include assisting faculty with lab activities and supervising open lab sessions. In both semesters the graduate assistant will also assist in confidential record keeping and other duties as assigned.


Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop skill in the use of strategies to teach anatomy and biomechanics
  • Increase ability to effectively collaborate with instructors
  • Develop skill in identifying and creating lab examinations
  • Increase ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Compensation:

  • Stipend for the academic year: $1500
  • Tuition award for the academic year: 6 credits

    The award is based on 10 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester. It is expected that students earn their credit hours in the fall and spring semesters by being enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours each semester. Credits must be earned by May 31 each year. Tuition waiver does not cover fees private music lessons books or OneCard charges. Students will receive of their annual stipend during the Fall semester and of their annual stipend during the Spring semester. Each semester the stipend will be divided into 8 payments. Fall stipends are paid on or about September 15December 31. Spring stipends are paid on or about January 31May 15

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be first year students in the Occupational Therapy Post Baccalaureate program.
  • Achieved a grade of B or higher in OCTH 506
  • Application of ethical conduct in academic research and clinical endeavors
  • High level of competency in the use of technology
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously manage priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Demands

  • Manage cadavers and tables in anatomy lab
  • Typical academic office setting
