Graduation from high school or equivalent education. One year of college or vocational training experience in park and recreation management interpretive visitor center or closely related setting is preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to: educate and inform visitors on compliance with rules and regulations and State laws; collect fees and make change; sell merchandise and account for monies collected; read maintain and prepare records and reports; and assist visitors in emergency situations. Daily interaction with site visitors requires effective communication and public relations skills.

This Recreation Site Technician position is located at Giant Springs which is Montanas most visited State Park receiving over 500000 visitors per year. Giant Springs is located just outside of Great Falls Montana and consists of 4600 acres of diverse land ranging from manicured lawns to natural prairie. The Giant Springs is the main attraction but the park also offers thirty miles of trail with exceptional opportunities for hiking and biking fascinating history dating to the Lewis and Clark Expedition numerous waterfalls/dams on the Missouri River reservable picnic areas and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Giant Springs State Park also provides local communities and park visitors with a variety of educational and interpretive programs as well as enjoyable special events such as performances concerts and movie showings.
Located on the Missouri River in the heart of Montana Great Falls is a haven of rich arts culture and history and is centrally located to provide ample outdoor opportunities entertainment health centers and shopping. Home to nearly 60000 residents Great Falls is the third largest city in Montana. Nearly every outdoor activity available in Montana is accessible in or around Great Falls including hiking road and mountain biking hunting fishing swimming kayaking canoeing crosscountry skiing snowshoeing and wildlife viewing areas. The city offers an extensive hiking and biking trail system along the river three golf courses two disc golf courses a minorleague baseball stadium multiple city parks two state parks and one national wildlife refuge.
This is a seasonal worker position with an anticipated season lasting April through October. The schedule for this position will be 84:30 TuesdaySaturday or SundayThursday. Weekend evening and holiday work is required. The incumbent will be expected to work independently often doing heavy physical labor in adverse weather conditions. Good physical condition is essential.
Job Duties:
The incumbent is responsible for assisting with daily operations of Giant Springs State Park. This work will include assisting with the parks interpretation and education program administrative tasks providing customer service and maintenance/janitorial tasks. Incumbent will staff the ranger station and engage in tasks such as providing information to the public collecting fees selling enterprise items answering phone calls and opening/closing daily financial sessions. Incumbent will assist park staff by leading and coleading educational programs staffing special events and working with volunteers. Incumbent will patrol park by foot or vehicle ensure rule compliance through information/education and when necessary aid enforcement staff with incidents. Incumbent will monitor the park for hazards and take corrective actions or notify supervisor. Incumbent may be assigned maintenance and janitorial tasks such as mowing trimming removal of noxious general landscaping and trail work. The incumbent will be a uniformed representative or the State of Montana and will be expected to represent the State in a positive manor while answering questions providing information and ensuring park rule compliance.
