Job Description

A masters degree in Communication Disorders and CCCSLP certification is preferred. This indicates that all requirements for national certification have been met including a passing Praxis score and completion of the Clinical Fellowship year. However candidates who have not yet completed their Clinical Fellowship hours are still encouraged to apply. At a minimum applicants must hold a bachelors degree and a valid Tennessee teaching license with an appropriate endorsement. Acceptable endorsements include 458 464 or 498. This position is designed to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with a students ability to fully benefit from the districts educational program. These positions are for theschool year.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelors degree; masters degree in Communication Disorders or a related field preferred.
  2. Valid Tennessee teaching certificate at appropriate grade level.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL

To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the individual students ability to derive full benefit from the districts educational program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Serves as a resource to school staff in developing and supporting a comprehensive program for oral communication and speech/language improvement.
  1. Provides therapeutic intervention to address individual needs of students with speech and language impairments.
  1. Assists and guides teachers in observing describing and referring students suspected of having speech and language difficulties.
  1. Conducts screenings at designated intervals to identify students with potential speech and language concerns.
  1. Designs and implements appropriate individualized therapy programs to meet student needs and remediate speech/language impairments.
  1. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school personnel to support the integration of therapy strategies into students daily routines.
  1. Provides consultation resources and counseling to parents and families as appropriate to support student progress.
  1. Maintains accurate and uptodate documentation of services student progress and communication with families and staff.
  1. Administers and interprets formal and informal assessments to evaluate speech and language skills and determine eligibility for special education services.
  1. Participates in multidisciplinary teams to contribute evaluation data develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and support student placement decisions.
  1. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Student Services Supervisor Director of Special Education or in accordance with district policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 25 lbs. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:

  3. Verbal: Ability to understand meanings of words and the ideas associated with them.
  4. Numerical: Ability to perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately.
  5. Manual Dexterity: Ability to move the hands easily and manipulate small objects with the fingers.
  6. Form Perception: To make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures.
  7. Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive or recognize similarities or differences in colors or shades or other values of the same color.
