Serving the Yellowstone County community and southcentral Montana for nearly 50 years RiverStone Health is an essential provider of personal and public health services. The Community Health and Safety Division of Public Health Services works to improve life health and safety in Yellowstone County at the population level. Services include communitywide efforts to prevent infectious diseases and ensure the safety and quality of our food and are assessment of health trends rural school health health education community partnerships policy systems and environmental strategies.
The Environmental Health Services (EHS) Programs ensure compliance with health laws for various establishments and monitor air quality. The Environmental Health Technician Specialist is responsible for technical administrative and customerfacing support for EHS services and initiatives including food body art air quality subdivision and septic public accommodations pools and spas and more to varying degrees based on need. The unique role combines administrative tasks with field work and support for both regulatory and innovative program goals. The work environment is typically fastpaced requiring excellent organizational and communication skills.
A. Environmental Health Services Technician Responsibilities 60
Review and maintain inspection data.
Assist in establishment licensing including plan reviews and renewals where applicable.
Support Environmental Health Services educational and outreach programs.
Fieldwork will include but not limited:
Final drain field inspections for wastewater program.
Groundwater monitoring.
Air quality monitoring and compliance inspections.
Complaint investigation when necessary.
Communicates environmental health information to others.
Works productively with other staff members.
Maintains records and reports of sanitary inspection and complaint activities.
Participates in development of new initiatives as a member of the project team.
Offers research drafting and delivery assistance related to presentations grants reports and other projects as directed.
Monitors and assists in the development of EHS related content for the RSH website Boiling Point newsletter RSH social media and other relevant media under the direction of the manager for distribution to interested parties.
Conducts regular oral and written communication about EHS goals facts opportunities and activities as requested.
Assists in developing work plans and budgets.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other agency organization and tribal entity representatives.
Works in a team/interdisciplinary team to achieve a common goal.
Demonstrates strong organizational and planning skillsfunctions as a selfstarter.
Operates Microsoft Word Excel Canva PowerPoint Publisher Outlook and Adobe Reader with proficiency.
Participates in emergency preparedness trainings exercises and response activities.
Manages time sensitive projects and meets deadlines in an accurate manner.
Recommend appropriate action against violators of the health code and enforces codes.
May be required to testify in court relating to action taken against violators of public health law.
B. Administrative Assistant Responsibilities 35
Provide compassionate friendly and professional customer communications in person over the phone and in writing.
Track receipts and expenditures in petty cash account generate invoices and manage payments electronically.
Develop and maintain sanitarian call schedules.
Track septic applications and payments and maintain installer database.
Provide septic and subdivision information to contractors and developers.
Enter inspection information into the state database.
Perform clerical and administrative services to support projects and program activities.
Answer telephones take messages transfer calls and provide information to callers.
Greet visitors or callers and handle their inquiries or direct them appropriately.
Manage incoming and outgoing mail order supplies operate office equipment coordinate mailings compose correspondence record meeting minutes develop spreadsheets maintain databases and file documents.
Manage timesensitive projects and meet deadlines accurately.
Coordinate communications with supervisors coworkers and clients.
Maintain confidentiality and respect for client privacy.
Attend staff and educational meetings.
Prepare mailings and order supplies as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the RiverStones mission and goals.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate of Applied Science degree in environmental health related field or any combination of training and experience which indicates possession of the knowledge skills and abilities listed.
Equivalent of two 2 years experience in environmental health services health education or a directly related field or in experience in a position of similar or transferrable skills and duties preferred.
A valid Drivers License
Required to obtain on the job training in ICSand 400.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.
Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures practices and equipment.
Ability to maintain a calm and positive demeanor during difficult interactions.
High degree of detailoriented skill level.
Knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
Excellent communication skills to ensure efficiencies and quality customer service.
Ability to understand and adhere to administrative policies and procedures.
