Job Description
At HubSpot our Academy Product Group helps millions of learners grow their careers by mastering business strategy new technology and HubSpots software. The Academy Learner team plays a key role in this mission by connecting users with the right educational content at the right timewhether through intelligent search and recommendations or directly embedded learning experiences in our product.
Were looking for a Backend Technical Lead II to join the Learner team and help us push the boundaries of personalized learning. If youre passionate about building impactful backend systems mentoring others and exploring how AI can enhance learning this could be a great fit.
What Youll Do
As a Technical Lead at HubSpot youll be a handson engineer 70 coding) while also guiding your teams technical direction and supporting other engineers growth. On the Academy Learner team youll:
- Own and evolve the backend systems powering search recommendation discovery and embedded learning within Academy
- Drive improvements to search and recommendation using machine learning systems
- Build the next generation of personalized learning experiences including a new Academy home page tailored to each user
- Help embed Academy into the broader HubSpot product allowing users to learn in context
- Integrate Academy content with Breeze and our support tooling to surface learning when its most relevant
Were Looking For Someone Who:
- Has experience building and scaling backend systems ideally in a fastpaced productfocused environment
- Is excited by problems in personalization search recommendation or AI/ML
- Has a strong foundation in Java or is comfortable picking it up
- Can balance strong technical with a desire to support and grow others on the team
- Has 2 years of experience at a Senior SWE II level or equivalent
- Is interested in technical leadership and potentially people leadership over time
Bonus Points If You:
- Have worked on predictive AI systems search or recommendation engines
- Have built or contributed to Generative AI experiences
- Have experience in the education or elearning space
