Job Description
WFXR is thrilled to welcome a news producer to our team. As our station continues to grow our viewership and impact on the Roanoke/burg DMA month after month our next news producer will play a critical role in helping build on that momentum. The ideal candidate will join a team that prides itself on working well together supporting each other and prioritizing professionalism and high journalistic standards. Our newsroom is a great environment for journalists both with experience and looking to start their journeys. Our next producer will work with our management team reporters anchors and fellow producers to create urgent relevant accurate newscasts day in and day out. With many decades of combined experience on our newsroom team and a broad array of backgrounds personalities and points of view the ideal candidate will be in prime position to learn grow and evolve alongside each of us.
Expectations include but are not limited to:
- Produce newscasts for broadcast across all platforms
- Source research write and proofread news stories
- Approve scripts written by teammates
- Work closely with managers anchors reporters fellow producers sports and weather staff to create dynamic daily newscasts
- Join the team in participating in communityfocused activities and events
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills:
- Bachelors degree in journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and workrelated experience
- Fluency in English
- Excellent communication skills both oral and written
- Two years newsroom experience highly preferred
- Proficiency with computers telephones copiers scanners fax machines and other office equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Commitment to working professionally respectfully and constructively with teammates managers department heads and corporate personnel
- Flexibility to work any shift including overnights weekends and holidays as needed
