Tarmac Groundworks Operative

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tarmac and Groundworks operativeto join our reputable surfacing company based in Bournemouth Dorset.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation laying and finishing of tarmac and asphalt surfaces on roads driveways and other construction sites.

Hours: Monday to Friday 7.30am 4pm

Occasional Saturdays.

Location: Bournemouth Dorset

Employment Type: FullTime Permanent

Salary: Starting at 15.00 to 16.00 per hour depending on experience. Progression opportunities with reviews after 6 months.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in preparing work sites including clearing and grading surfaces compacting soil and ensuring proper drainage.
• Prepare surfaces for tarmac application including excavation grading and compacting.
• Mix and lay asphalt and tarmac to the required specifications.
• Operate machinery such as rollers pavers and compactors.
• Work with hand tools to level spread and smooth tarmac surfaces.
• Lay and level asphalt concrete and Tarmac surfacing materials under the guidance of skilled supervisors.
• Support the installation of kerbs paving and other groundwork structures.
• Operate and maintain small plant machinery and tools as required (e.g. compactors mixers).
• Follow health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
• Load and unload materials and equipment from delivery vehicles.
• Assist in the setup and breakdown of work sites including traffic management and signage as necessary.
• Collaborate with other team members to complete projects efficiently and to the highest quality standard.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in groundwork street works surfacing or a related construction field is preferred.
• Previous experience in tarmac laying road surfacing or a similar role is essential
• Knowledge of tarmac and asphalt materials mixing and application techniques.
• Ability to operate relevant machinery and tools.
• Strong attention to detail and quality of work.
• Good physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations in construction.
• Basic knowledge of hand and power tools with the ability to learn and operate new equipment.
• Strong physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A positive work ethic and willingness to take instruction and learn from experienced team members.
• CSCS card is advantageous but not essential.
• Full UK clean UK driving licence required to use company vehicles.
