Job Description
Corewell Health is pleased to announce our 2025 Summer Immersion Program for nursing students looking to enhance their academic knowledge and further develop their clinical skills through a handson experience with a nurse preceptor.
The Nurse Extern will be paired up with a Nurse Preceptor for this 10week program beginning May 19 2025 working 3 12hour shifts per week. Working hours are generally 7:00 a.m. 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. 7:30 a.m. We will offer placements in a variety of clinical specialties at each of our 8 hospital campuses which may include Med/Surg Progressive Care Critical Care and Emergency.

Orientation begins on May 19 2025
To be considered for this program you must be currently enrolled and attending a BSN or ADN registered nursing program nationally accredited through either CCNE or ACEN. In addition you must be graduating Fall/Winter 2025 or Spring 2026. This 10week immersion program requires a mandatory fulltime attendance commitment including any enrichment sessions.
Scope of work
Under supervision of a Registered Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients.
Performs routine bedside nursing activities including: bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations suctioning irrigating colostomies applying restraints giving enemas s and sitz baths or pericare.
Takes vital signs and records intake and output.
Applies and changes sterile and nonsterile dressing using appropriate technique.
Performs more complex nursing procedures and treatments after theoretical preparation and supervised clinical experience.
Keeps professional nursing staff advised of current patient status as well as changes in patient condition as they occur.
Performs assessments and documents accurate complete and concise patient information on appropriate forms including flow sheets activity records etc.
Participates in nursing staff conferences inservices and educational opportunities.
Ensures the optimum utilization of personnel supplies and equipment.
Provides copy of current school transcript to supervisor at the end of each marking period to confirm continued eligibility.
Assists in admitting transferring and discharging patients.
Assists in preoperative and postoperative care.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled and attending an accredited school of registered nursing. May be enrolled in an (accredited) Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program (BSN) or Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) Program.
Requires evidence of successful completion of adult medicalsurgical rotations theory and clinical required transcripts must be provided at the time of hire
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS OR American Red Cross (ARC) BLS required and must be valid through July 2025
