Job Description
The Cloud Infrastructure team at Coupang builds and operates the platform on which our entire Cloudbased business operates. Our team manages our core computing storage and networking resources to ensure efficiency availability and scalability. We also develop tooling and platform components that enable Coupang developers to easily and correctly use this infrastructure in a selfservice manner through mechanisms such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
As a Senior Staff Engineer on this global team your goal will be to build a stateoftheart cloud platform with industryleading usability efficiency and reliability. You will operate as a technical leader diving deep into business problems understanding customer pain points and building new systems / services to address these issues. You will identify limitations of our existing architectures and lead efforts with engineering teams across the company to solve them. You will work deeply with public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) as well as core technologies including Terraform Kubernetes Docker and Linux. You will create a vision strategies and roadmaps for scalable and robust growth of our multiple complex cloud environments then work with technical leaders across the company to realize them.

As a Senior Staff Engineer on the Cloud Platform team you will own innovate and relentlessly improve the technological foundation of Coupangs business. Our team architects builds and operates all of Coupangs Cloud environments and networks including our Cloud Platform infrastructure services and processes. We also build and operate the core systems that Coupang engineers use to manage their services. Our work enhances companywide efficiency availability scalability and system quality and improves productivity for thousands of engineers. We enable Coupangs rapid innovation and growth by building our systems to be highly automated providing selfservice for our internal customers with strong guardrails for safety.
Role Responsibilities:
Provide a roadmap and vision for scalable and robust growth for our cloud infrastructure and platform services.
Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for major improvements in cloud infrastructure usage network architecture and service operations. Design and implement solutions with a high degree of systematic automation.
Handson team leader and contributor working on infrastructure design and implementation selfservice tooling cloud backend deployment and operational excellence.
Collaborate with crossteam stakeholders and lead engineers on key missioncritical projects.
100 accountable for the reliable scalable and optimized operation of our cloud architecture and core platform services.
Exert technical influence over multiple teams increasing their productivity and effectiveness through technical improvements and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
12 years of experience in Cloud backend engineering Cloud networking Cloud Design Deployment DevOps or related field 10 years experience with advanced degree).
5 years of experience leading system design and architecture leveraging Cloud technologies (AWS / Azure / GCP / Private Cloud).
5 years of building and operating infrastructure as code or related infrastructure automation.
Working experience with Kubernetes Docker Linux and cloud services integrations.
Strong analytical skills & ability to deep dive into cloud infra and systems architecture across a wide range of focus areas.
Prior experience building and/or operating highly available and scalable services in a Cloud environment.
Excellent crossgroup collaboration outstanding verbal and written communication.
Preferred:
Masters or other advanced degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Strong Experience on Cloud DevOps tools and coding (e.g. CI/CD IaC Terraform Cloud Formation Ansible Python).
Expertise in network architecture standards and protocols.
Pay & Benefits:
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. At Coupang your base pay is one part of your total base pay for this position ranges from $171000/year in our lowest geographic market to $324000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.
