Role: Data Security Officer

Department: Digital Data and Technology

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Security Officer to join our Digital Data and Technology Team on a temporary basis for 12 months.

Key responsibilities:

  • Effectively translate and accurately communicate security and risk implications to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Effectively manage stakeholder expectations and demonstrate flexibility in their approach adapting to stakeholder reactions to reach consensus.
  • Advise on developments to security properties alongside assessing implications of new technologies.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of System Information Risk Assessments (IRAR).
  • Assist with the development implementation and maintenance of data security policies and procedures in support of the NPCC Community Security Policy.
  • Act as Single Point of Contact (SPOC) within DDaT providing advice and guidance on all matters relating to data security.
  • Support the review and monitoring of compliance with the Force Data Security Policy portfolio and the requirements of the NPCC Community Security Policy HMG Infosec Standards National/Local Accreditation requirements and National Codes of Connection.

Skills and experience:

  • Degree in a related discipline or comparable work experience of working with systems and applications in a security architecture capacity 2 years).
  • Effective communication skills including presenting and sharing information with audiences
  • across a wide array of technical expertise culture and seniority.
  • Experience of practical implementation of data security access control and data protection principles and legislation.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of security concepts and can apply them to a technical level in conjunction with designing effective policies.
  • Proven track record working either independently or as part of a team to solve technical problems in the delivery of an effective product.
  • Experience of working on projects and/or knowledge of the lifecycle of a project (Experience skills training).

Applicants must meet the minimum requirement checkable history criteria which must be taken into account for individuals applying to work with South Yorkshire Police in any capacity. The decision to make all adverts temporary for a fixed term of 12 months is due to the financial position. As the financial position becomes clearer it may be that we can make some of these posts permanent without the need to run a second recruitment process equally they could be ended sooner than the 12 months.
