Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit including GO Expansion Light Rail Transit routes and major expansions to Torontos subway system to get people where they need to go better faster and easier. Our Construction Control Desk department is looking for a Senior Manager Construction Control Desk to join the team! You will be accountable for supporting capital projects and the associated work blocks. This role will provide oversight and direction for the construction control desk operation project and construction monitoring/reporting incident reporting client engagement and planning to support Metrolinxs active construction projects pertaining to GO Expansion.

What will I be doing
  • Act as a single point of contact for realtime reporting and tracking of track outages and construction activities anywhere on the network.
  • Oversee the review of technical and functional reports for planned recovery changes to identify weaknesses that could potentially impact service customer satisfaction and safety and develops strategies for improvement
  • Guide and provide direction to the Construction Control Desk Controllers project delivery teams and other stakeholders regarding the progress of construction activities during disruptive and nondisruptive work blocks.
  • Provide guidance and direction obtained from the Construction Control Desk Controllers to the field Construction Specialists regarding track access and potential deviations that may occur within the planned operations including but not limited to late running services and delayed engineering trains that may impact the projects ability to complete all work as planned.
  • Manages 24/7 Construction Control Desk (CCD) daily operations and performance to ensure passengers and management needs are met.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need
  • Completion of a degree in Transportation Planning/Management Business Administration or a related discipline or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience encompassing leadership roles focused on providing comprehensive engineering and construction management services associated with the planning designing and constructing transit facilities station infrastructure and related works on public transit/light/heavy rail operations and transportation engineering preferably in the public sector and/or unionized environment.
  • Frontline railway operations and/or applied track engineering experience is an asset.
  • Previous experience includes leading a team of technical professionals.
  • Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification a valid Professional Engineering (. license recognized by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) Valid Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists Environmental safety (such as OSHA) and/or regulatory transportation courses or certifications would be assets.
  • Knowledge of the applicable legislation and railway operating rules affecting railway environmental public and employee safety is required.
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering and planning is also required to identify potential inadequacies evaluate plans developed by others and utilize appropriate rail transportation analytical tools.
  • Leadership skills to manage coach and develop unit teams; experience applying collective agreement provisions to monitor and manage employees and contractors.
  • Project and construction management principles and practices to lead and direct crossfunctional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects (i.e. development project progress related staff and project resources) and monitor project activities for adherence to timelines and project performance objectives.
  • Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to assist with preparing reports and presentations new directions or recent findings in operations studies and present to technical and nontechnical audiences.
