DescriptionJob Summary: Performs secretarial and laboratory functions of Pathology to provide optimal organization/operation of activities consistent with the hospital mission and philosophy objectives standards and bylaws. Demonstrates tact and courtesy in contact with the public Pathology staff and other hospital personnel. Utilizes discretion in processing confidential information.

- High school diploma or GED required.

How Youll Impact Patient Care:
Your responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Demonstrates good working knowledge of all equipment and maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
- Accurately validates the proper preparation and identification of all pathological specimens received in the department by labeling blocks slides and other case material.
- Communications between Pathologists Pathology staff patients clinicians and staff efficiently with appropriate processing as needed to assure prompt response and question resolutions.
- Maintains office security including confidentiality of written and verbal communications.
- Responds to special requests from the Lead Histotechnologist Pathology Manager Pathologists and Pathology Assistant.
- Effectively uses the Pathology information system to facilitate efficient result output for pathology and cytology specimens.
- Accessions received specimens in Pathology information system.
- Prepares appropriate paperwork and special reports for Cancer Registry in an accurate and timely manner.
- Completes special projects independently in an efficient and timely manner.
- Prepares materials for Cancer Conference.
- Maintain storage of slides blocks and paperwork.
- Expedites sendouts for histology and accurately maintains send out log on computer.
- Prepare supplies/requisitions for outside clients.
- Attains at least 5 contact hours of Continuing Education per year.
- Assists Oncologists/Pathologists on bone marrows and fine needle aspirations.
- Keeps bone marrow and fine needle aspirations carts stocked.
- Upholds a professional working relationship at all times and adheres to department rules.
- Practices teamwork and adheres to Standards of Behavior.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
