JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Building Trades Instructor
Primary Supervisor: Director of Hannibal Career and Technical Center
DURATION: 180 Days plus 22 extended contract days
Job Summary: The instructor is responsible for providing students with comprehensive
instruction in various construction and building trades including carpentry plumbing electrical
work masonry and general construction skills. This position combines classroombased learning
with handson training ensuring students develop both technical expertise and a strong
understanding of workplace safety and industry standards. The teacher will foster a positive and
engaging learning environment promote career readiness and prepare students for successful
entry into the workforce or further education in the building trades field. Additionally the
Building Trades Teacher will collaborate with industry professionals to offer workbased
learning opportunities helping students gain realworld experience.
Qualifications: Meet all certification requirements as set forth by the Department of Elementary
and Secondary Education (DESE).
CTAC (Career Education Temporary Authorization Certificate)
Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university and four thousand
4000 hours of Departmentapproved closely related occupational experience obtained
within the past ten 10 Years: or
Associates degree from an accredited college or university and five thousand 5000 hours
of Departmentapproved closely related occupational experience within the past ten 10
years; or
No degree and six thousand 6000 hours of Departmentapproved closely related
occupational experience obtain with the past ten 10 years.
Once met CTAC apply for upgrade to ICEC (Initial Career Education Certificate)
Upgrade from ICEC to CCPS (Career Continuous Professional Certificate)
Complete 4 years of DESE approved teaching
Participate in districtprovided mentoring program for 2 years
Complete 30 contact hours of professional development for an IPC upgrade; successfully
complete 90 contact hours of professional development for an ICEC upgrade. This may
include college credits 1 semester hour equals 15 contact hours of professional
development.
Participate in beginning teacher assistance program offered by UCM
Participate in districts Performance Based Teacher Evaluation process.
Develop and implement a professional development plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Supervision of all students assigned in instructional activities.
2. Plan and implement curriculum to meet competency requirements.
3. Establish learning objectives for each lesson and maintain lesson plans for each instructional
unit.
4. Develop and implement a variety of teaching strategies.
5. Develop and adapt instructional materials and experiences to meet individual student needs.
6. Establish and maintain an effective climate for learning.
7. Maximize use of instructional time.
8. Assess and record student progress on a regular basis through district grading scale.
9. Maintain accurate attendance records on students and follow school procedures for reporting
attendance of students.
10. Enforce safety policies and practices as required by state and federal law and the school
district.
11. Serve as a positive role model and leader for students to follow.
12. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field.
13. Maintain a current and accurate inventory of all equipment tools and supplies.
14. Participate in parent conferences career and technical education department meetings
interdisciplinary team planning and IEP meetings
16. Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline.
17. Work constantly to instill in students the technical and academic competencies and
employment behavior expected within the specific career field.
18. Develop and maintain a classroom and lab environment conducive to effective learning with
the limits of the resources provided.
19. Integrate competencies goals and objectives into lesson plans.
Marginal Duties:
1. Plan and conduct appropriate education field trips.
2. Maintain appropriate substitute teacher file.
3. Evaluate and recommend instructional aids and textbooks.
4. Must be able to bend stoop and kneel for long periods of time.
5. Must attend ongoing education (clinics) related to new tool and materials technologies.
6. Organize attend and participate in Advisory Committee Meetings two times a year.
8. Be an active in student Career and Technical Student Organization.
